I am now living in the ETOPS world, but over a lot of not much I will take the 74 any day. No amount of log book ink is going to replace engines/generators/hyd systems 3 & 4!
I’m not debating 777 vs 747. They are each meant for a different type of leg. I’ve flown both. The 747 still wins the coolness contest.

Boeing does not build aircraft that compete against each other. Think of the 777F as a Ford F-150. Not every job requires the increased load capacity of the F-250 (B744) or a F-350 (B748).

Also remember as you add additional systems and engines that the statistical odds of having a problem increase.

They’ll still answer 2. They aren’t the ones that have to deal with it until you turn them into Tom Hanks

I....like most everyone else other than the accountants...who have done lots of crossings will take extra motors.

Accountants and Management don’t do crossings but generally do accounting and managing.
Your level of comfort isn’t included in the 747 vs 777 calculation. I agree that more is better safety wise but people don’t care what I think.

...Besides shouldn’t you worry more about those few tons of Chinese reverse engineered 50c Li-iOn batteries you’re carrying?

They are only made in China. As long as they are shipped at a 30% charge, the danger goes down significantly. I fly R/C and have decomissioned a few large packs with a nail and hammer. At a low charge, nothing much happens. Fully charged is another story... Why the new laws state a 30% charge.
