Rex, are you on the 737?

Coming to any of the AAWH airlines is a huge gamble right now, and I don't know that I'm optimistic that it will pay off.
As far as upgrades go, when I was hired I was told that I'd be a captain in 18-24 months. That was 3 years ago, and I am still at the very least another year - 18 months away from being able to hold it.

What should concern you most of all, though, is what company management has planned for the future here. At the most recent scope negotiation between the company and the union, the company lawyers basically said that they want the ability to vastly increase their dry-leasing business (as in, lease out the airplanes without any crew to fly them). Furthermore, they hinted that they don't want the crewmembers tied to the airplanes in the next CBA because they don't think that they would be able to sell the company as easily in that case.

Take a good long look at what out relationship with Amazon is here. All of our (AAWH) agreements with Amazon are CMI agreements, not ACMI agreements. What that means is that Amazon has leased our airplanes independently of the pilots who are flying them and can take all of those airplanes away with 180 days notice. The original agreement with Amazon was that they would lease our airplanes for 10 years, but only lease our crew services for 7. So, the idea that they'll be taking the airplanes away from us is baked right into the agreement.

It may sound like hyperbole, but I think that it is 100% reasonable to believe that we could start to see furloughs, and lots of them, once the 7 year crew leasing agreement is up. Which is when, about 3.5 years from now?

Feel free to PM me if you have any other specific questions.[/QUOTE]

OP- Do you really think that creating a new user name is going to yield different answers than the ones you got a few weeks ago in "Southern CBA" thread ?

I’m on the 767.

Functionally, Atlas and Southern are essentially the same at this point. Same bosses determining the fate of the company, same contract for the pilots, same future for all of us.

I’m curious, if you said that you’ve got friends at K4, why not apply there?

Well no K4 for me because I don’t want to fly long haul ever! The 737 is the only reason I gave this place consideration.

Go to Kalitta Charters II. I expect they will continue to slowly acquire more 737.

Whats the quality of life there? I know the pay isn’t good.

Quote: Not for me, regional flying is not a place to get stuck if the music stopped. Got stuck in 911 as a young regional fo, sept 08 hired at nwa and delta merger got my class date cancelled. So the only reason I’m considering southern is a hope that it may luck out like my buds at K4 who got on in the mid 2000’s. Everyone said K4 was a terrible place to be and how times have changed
ACMIs are the same as regionals, they just fly bigger planes. They bid contract to contract.

This guy is a hoot. "Don't go in there, it's full of angry, feral, radioactive wolves." "I understand that the last time anyone went in there, they were eaten by the radioactive wolves, and yes, I hear the screams of the guys currently being eaten by the radioactive wolves, but it could get a lot better tomorrow! Why not roll the dice?"

Ok, dumbass. On your own head be it.

From an Atlas Air thread but applies to Southern Air just the same. Turbine1 is spot on in his post and if you are oblivious to the risks of coming to Atlas or Southern and the potential for the bottom 25% of the list at both airlines to lose their jobs, read below:

Quote: I can see it now. It’s an open secret that Amazon is already running a shadow operation and calling the shots in CVG. Amazon gets their own operating certificate then gives their 180 day notice to dump the CMI contract for Atlas/Southern pilots, putting 600 pilots on the street. Possibly 400 more if they take the 20 737’s that are coming. Then say hey guys and gals come work for Papa Bezos! We might even give you a preferential interview! They have the airplanes leased for another 3 years, plenty of time to hire and train their own crews before they buy the planes outright. It won’t be hard, those recently furloughed AAWH crews have up to 7 years experience...Hey a non union job at year 1 probationary pay again is better than no job right?
