Any of your flight departments having luck changing management’s prospective on pilot retention?

In our case, no. An OK pay raise for 2020, but no real “we are worried about losing you guys, what can we do to prevent that?” discussion.

I’m sure the overall answer to your question, as with everything in corporate aviation is, “it depends”. And in some (most?) cases it will take people voting with their feet resulting in unmanned aircraft to get the message across.

Good discussion on 21.five podcast.

Nope. Sent a pilot retention email with ideas. Crickets. Only way is to vote with your feet.

Glad I left my corp. Fortune 25 job years ago for the majors. Those that stayed got a raise which was good. But my boss was ordering parts for his Stearman restoration and billing the flt. dept. He also tried to fire one of our pilots, who went to the CEO and pleaded his case. Seeing that pilot flew the CEO often, the door was open for a meeting. That resulted in a full scale HR audit of the department and a look at the books which resulted in the parts billing discovery. The boss was canned, the pilot stayed.
Later, it all ended badly with HR sending a non pilot down to run flight. A few years later just about everyone was canned just at the point where their pensions were impacted severely by age.
I had some rough years at the airline after 9-11, but was very glad I left.

We haven't had any luck and we are about 15-20K per year underpaid. We do have great benefits and a handsome bonus but, it isn't a guarantee. I'd rather have the salary increase versus the bonus. We fly a midsize aircraft over 450 hours a year with 4 pilots. I've been here for almost 10 years and have a nice schedule. I wouldn't have even thought about leaving a year ago but, I have come to the conclusion that there are something's I would like to have in my career. One is being just a number again, flying with different folks on every trip. I miss that, good old fashion standardization, following the rules and accountability. Part 91 isn't always the dream job. Look before you leap.
