So I just saw that my home airport is on the HBA list!! So what does that mean? Or what’s the difference from a normal Base?
A new hire will be limited to the "crew bases." Every contract negated since the 2007 IBB allows for pilots on property to switch to the HBA list if so desired. But if I were a new hire I would only count on access to the crew base list. I had an airline commute for several years. It wasn't super stressful but the lost time really sucked. Happy to be living in the States again.

You will be in a Crew Base of your choice for now. Grandfathering a group of junior crewmembers into the HBA list has happened twice now, and there is a definite possibility you may see those rights in the future. I just couldn't tell you when.

Others have explained it already. You'll probably get HBA access at some point but no telling how long that could be. Look at the crew base list and see how far a commute it would be and decide if you can live with that until HBA is offered.

Um, where? In the contract? I sure as hell don't understand it. I don't speak lawyer.

Our basing system is a complete, utter, lawyer-wet-dream goat rope.

The basing system is way more complicated than it should be.

The basing system is set up so that when a new CBA is put out for a vote, they use the HBA system as a carrot for more yes votes. The reality is the company doesn't like the HBA system as they are less productive then the crew base system. However, as the availability of pilots is shrinking, they are slowly being forced to give it to everyone.

I know several who voted in the IBI solely because of the HBA.

Lurker here. I’m considering moving the family to Houston. 20 minutes to IAH, and would be an hour+ in traffic to HOU. IAH isn’t listed on APC, nor is it specifically listed on NetJets website (just says “Houston”).

IAH is listed on a couple attachments in this thread. Can anyone verify if IAH is offered to new hires?

thanks

Both IAH and HOU are crew bases.

That said, if you pick IAH, there will be a LOT of occasions starting your tour where you have to drive to IAH, then get in a Lyft and go to Sugarland or Hobby to meet your airplane. There will also be plenty of times you’ll end your tour the same way in reverse. You won’t be getting picked up or dropped off at your house. And Hobby and Sugarland are WAY more popular with our customers than Bush.
