Sadly this Coronavirus thing is going to tank our economy and everything else for that matter. The world is going to hunker down and lay low for a bit. Airlines are cutting back and parking planes. Furloughs are on the way. Those of us trying to work our way up the professional pilot ladder, have just been knocked back to ground level. Lets hope the downturn is short lived and we get through this in a short time.

It wasn’t like some of us more experienced pilots didn’t warn the new generation not to believe the vertical upward line of hiring and airline growth. The most dangerous four words, “this time is different”. It never is.

I don't know when you start but I'll be ready in 2024. So hopefully the economy will be back on its feet, so I'm not worried at all. Hiring will be back again, the economy is cyclical, ups and downs. Retirements will be crazy too.

What a shame.... all those second-career 'aspiring' pilots that came out of the woodwork and took on all that debt, only to be stuck with big loan payments and no flying job. Lol

IT isn’t looking so bad now, is it?

how many hours do you have now? You might be viable right now

Maybe some of your fellow pilots will quit, increase your odds down the road?

I think things will return to normal, even if it takes a few months. Remember the ‘swine flu’, & a few of the others?

They say ‘80% of those with Corona will have mild symptoms’? Doesn’t seem worth panicking over, or buying a gross of T.P..

I'm still optimistic about the long term. There are so many retirements that it would take vast and permanent structural changes to the economy to really screw that up.

As always, I caveat that optimism with the caution that the industry is vulnerable to a variety black swan type events.

But I think this virus thing will be over soon and the economy will take a brief time out, that was coming sooner or later anyway.
