UAL and DL are good about that. Pre-SWA when I was a RJ grunt AA would stick you in the worst seat possible even if the rest of the plane was completely empty. I haven’t flown AA or much of anyone else in the nearly 5 yrs I’ve been at SWA so maybe it’s changed.

It was halfway through a 12+ hour duty day and I just wanted it to be over. I was tired and couldn't budget the energy to argue.

Bizarre... our FAs do the exact opposite. If you are in uniform, they try and put you in an exit row as they know you will be able to help and not hinder the possible evacuation process. What happened to the SWA we all enjoyed using years ago?(and therefore always enjoyed reciprocating when we had the opportunity). No more walking up to the gate to request a jumpseat from a friendly CS agent and now knowing that there are “optics” involved in sitting in an exit row....good to know though as I had no idea and am now wondering if I’ve ever sat in an exit row on SWA(don’t think so but apologies if I have...)

Yeah. Imagine that. Putting the highest paying customers ahead of non-revs, jumpseaters, etc. Who knew?

Yeah what happened to the good ole SWA where we could drink 6-packs and bang FAs in the exit row??

GMAFB. You guys are making it way too complicated. Pre-boarders are not supposed to sit in the exit row for 2 reasons:

1. If you're pre-boarding, you usually have a medical condition, or you're an unaccompanied minor, which both would prevent you from operating the emergency escape windows. So instead of saying "Hey, if you have a medical issue, don't sit in the exit row", we just throw out a blanket statement saying no PBs can sit in the exit row to make it simple.
2. There are optics involved. I'd personally feel like an ******* if I pre-boarded and sat in the exit row, whether in uniform or not. I didn't pay for my ticket, so I'll gladly take 69B or whatever seat is available to take my beaten ass back home. Sure, it's probably up to the FA if he/she wanted to call you out, but just don't be that guy/girl.

Umm, okay. I guess I can understand the “optics” logic if your prized seats are exit row seats. Understandable.

Vernon, optics aside... we have no assigned seating, so gate agents can’t “put” you somewhere. You really feel good about boarding early and grabbing an exit row seat and making a paying customer sit middle row against the aft bulkhead? You want that exit row seat for the same reason a paying customer wants it. Safety nor optics have anything to do with it.

I agree that crew should be allowed to sit there for safety reasons... in fact, I think it should be SOP, but I don’t run the airline.

I rarely ride SW but years ago I often used (and greatly appreciated) SW on my commute. When I was a pre-board, I normally sat on an aisle five or six rows from the front just to be somewhat out of the way yet not look greedy. That also helped expedite my walking up the cockpit when the flight ended up full without disturbing others.

As of now, 1 seat left for sale with 1 employee listing and 1 guest pass listing. Flight 143 at 3:55 local has 6 openings as of now. I would suggest that one, if u can swing it.
