Low hanging political fruit... it shows decisive action for those who desperately want to believe, but it doesn't change anything or require any effort or money since the airlines were already doing it anyway. Nothing to see here.

Except federal charges for non-compliance.

The verbiage of the EO is not out yet.

"Rumor" is if it touches "fed property" it is enforceable. Wonder how that's going to work in FL where the Governor has legislated that mask laws can not be enforced by fine or jail. How's that 10th Amend going to be tested now? Same reason Trump couldn't mandate no masks, biden is on thin ice with this EO.

Also Rick, in the same day biden has:
Halted construction on Keystone XL
Banned fracking
Halted oil leases

So there goes fuel prices. Mark my words. OPEC is going to twist our nuts in a vise again. That is going to add another nail in the coffin.

biden is bad for business. this is not going to bode well for the future prosperity of this industry.

Changes quite a lot actually. It now carries the full weight and force of the United States government.

I’ll be honest. I’m not ready to send someone to prison or give them a criminal record because they didn’t wear one.

Do masks really even work? Ask ten different people you get ten different answers.
I still don’t ****ing know if the one I wear works.

You cannot apply " the full weight and force of the United States government" by EO. Congress would have to a pass law with criminal penalties. There's a reason the president can't just wiggle his pinky finger and consign people to prison.

What the EO might possibly do is apply an existing FAR (perhaps something about complying with crew instructions?), which would have civil penalties associated.

I'm sure if you do some research you can figure out exactly what enforcement the mask edict might carry. I'm too lazy, and it's not changing much anyway.

Quote: The executive order that Biden signed today says mask are to be worn on federal property...something else that is less talked about is that it also requires people on “plane crossing a state line” to wear a mask. Even though all airlines require it, I guess the government and not the airlines are going to decided the details of the mask rule now?

for example the airlines no longer have a say when they can stop making a mask mandatory in the future? The government can decide who is exempt from wearing a mask on a plane (under 2 years old), or now Biden can now say you can no longer removed your mask even for when eating on a plane? Idk? Does anyone know the details of the order. Here is a news article but not too detailed.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fox...deral-land.amp

Does this now include pilots behind doors during flight ops? What about on federal property out doors? Like the Lincoln memorial? Interstates? BLM millions of acres of sagebrush and dirt roads? Military members in barracks? During sleep hours? Where is this written?

In 2006 we were told of some liquid bomb terror plot the government thwarted. We were immediately forced a 3-1-1 rule, 100mL max limit. To this day, 15 years later, we haven't had a single budge from that stupid rule. That's despite 3 Presidents and a changing threat matrix. Still cannot to this day take your own 20 oz water bottle through TSA.

This is why I'm against a federal mask mandate that is designed to "protect us." Once you give that power away, you aren't getting it back. So how long before they say the regular flu kills 30-80k per year, but science potentially shows masks from November-March would make that 15-40k dead, so now the new norm becomes a federal mask mandate for flu season every year? I don't want to test those waters.

I'm masking up now to beat Covid19. Once this pandemic is under over, I'm ditching the mask.

Which is why you don’t give an order you are either UNABLE or UNWILLING to enforce.

I would cite the example of Prohibition.

It was unquestionably constitutional because it was a constitutional amendment. It was passed in the House by an overwhelming bipartisan majority, the vote was 282 to 128, with the Democrats voting 141 in favor and 64 in opposition; and the Republicans voting 137 in favor and 62 in opposition.

It was passed in the Senate with an overwhelming bipartisan majority,
65 to 20, with the Democrats voting 36 in favor and 12 in opposition; and the Republicans voting 29 in favor and 8in opposition it was then ratified by an overwhelming bipartisan majority in the state legislatures of 46 of the 48 states.

But it was largely unenforceable.

Many police agencies simply looked the other way, but even when lawbreakers were caught dead to rights, and there were prosecutors actually willing to prosecute, the juries acquitted 60% of those charged, and most of the rest of the trials ended in hung juries that the prosecutors didn’t even bother to retry because the majority of jurors had voted for acquittal.

I did edit my post, what I meant to write was:

"This is why I'm against a federal mask mandate that is designed to "protect us."
