Are any of you complaining actually on reserve? I promise you this situation you’re whining about affects you much less than you think. The overall amount of dropping and trading is far less with pbs since senior folks are getting the trips they want with the initial award.

I commute to reserve and would like to pick up something now and then. I have never found a trip that fits since we started pbs. With only 12 days off, and protected windows of time around RAPs, a person needs VERY specific trips on only a handful of days that will be legal and allowed by scheduling to pick up. If you live in base you might have a shot but with the amount of flying we’ve had for the last year, you’re looking for a unicorn.

What you’re experiencing is the QOL loss associated with PBS if you aren’t super senior and know how to bid.

Quote: In addition, the control the union has, to limit the number of min or max bidding pilots is a digression of seniority as well. If I would want to fly less in a particular month and have seniority over junior pilot below me in base, then the additional flying should be awarded to junior pilots as coverage award/unstacking if need be.
Not sure how limiting the number of max or min bidders is a digression of seniority when they are awarded in seniority order. Other than the mechanics of how it is done, there is in effect, absolutely zero difference in the result between PBS and line bidding with regards to high vs low credit lines. Manually build too many lines with high credit and it shoots the ALV up so the line builders had to pull credit off those lines and put it elsehwere if the ALV was outside the parameters given by the company. The process was invisible to the pilot group other than you would see that on months with low ALVs there weren’t as many high credit lines available. Same thing now. There is always an attempt to allow as many max bidders as possible but ALVs have been so low it’s been very difficult to allow more max bidders. Unstacking limits are already getting bumped up against regularly so just allowing more unstacking doesn’t work either. There haven’t been any min bidders allowed with the low ALVs because it didn’t make sense to allow min bidding when the normal window could get you lower credit. Just because the intricacies of the process are more visible now doesn’t mean the same issues didn’t exist before. In all reality, with line bidding the company really didn’t allow any lines to be built less than 75 hours (except red eye turns). Now with ALVs as low as they have been, you can get a 70-74 hour line if you know how to do it.

Being able to pick up above 75 on reserve, was a gain for the junior guys. I understand both sides of the argument for a lockout window of reserves picking up DOT. But I feel that with a 2-4 hour window, we will see trips getting churned to reset the clock. Just like we did with out of base pickups in DEN. 2-4 hours seems excessive. 10-15 minutes would be more practical.

And if this gets passed, why not just shut the reserve guys out of the PAF while we are at it?

-this.
A majority of frontier pilots are either on reserve or will be on reserve. Even more so as we increase the base count.. a win for reserves is a win for the the majority.

Quote: The 30 mins or whatever it is would apply to any pickup. That’s why it won’t be 2-4 hrs.
So in addition to the senior weighted slope on CA pay rates, and the ability in PBS for senior guys to cherry pick the highest credit pairings (rightfully so), leaving only 5 hour days for the junior guys, we are now going to effectively shut reserves out of DOT and PAF?

I'm on reserve, but will hold a line this year, so I'll benefit from this. But I don't agree with it. We are moving backwards. We are taking away CURRENT QOL improvements from junior pilots, for the sole benefit of the senior ones.

Do it right, wait until the next section 6.

your retirement slope beat out a sr guys. It was the same % increase in total compensation. Anyhow I agree but I’m not in charge. I am in favor of a 10-30 min block. That’s it.

Bring back MOT solves the issue. Give line holders first crack at the open time to fix a schedule then it goes to everyone else

Say that in the mid contract survey. That data is reviewed pretty closely and used for Loa and contract opening strategy discussions. Just please add no splits with MOT.

And don’t worry about res pickups with the PAF. It won’t happen. Company will never agree to it.
