You read the article wrong, it's not compounded daily, it is the difference between the daily growth rates(natural log). The number of cases is always increasing until Covid runs out of people to infect.

Fauci the career epidemiologist failed to recognize a pandemic until it was too late. In the meantime he communicated that masks weren’t needed.
