Quote: I avoid multiple redeyes like the plague, I'd be at UPS or FDX if I wanted to do that. Be healthy and well-rested the day before and you can power through one or even two easily. After that, it goes downhill.

With a family I can't live my life on anything but day shift. If I was single, I'd probably just do the vampire thing (at FDX/UPS), and live in manhattan where there's stuff do 24/7.
Then bid the day time flying.

Question for those taking melatonin. Did you try it at home first before use on the road? Also which brand/product would you recommend. I'm seeing a bunch on Amazon and was thinking of getting the "kids" bottle which is a lower dose (2.5mg per gummy) but there's a ton of options...

I get the 5mg gummies from Costco. They work well and are consistent. I know several people that also use them and have had good results.

Just don't mix them up with your wife's gummies

5mg gummies here as well. Work really well for me.

I’ve gotten some at the grocery store that are 5mg but dual layer fast/slow release. Seems like a good idea and works well.

Doctor’s instructions on how to take melatonin. Only buy pure melatonin, not melatonin that is mixed with some random sleep aid or herbal formula.

Everyone needs a different amount of melatonin, you need to titrate yourself to figure out the right dosage. Start the first night with just 1mg. See how you feel the next morning. The right dosage should allow you to wake up refreshed, if you wake up in the middle of the night, fine, but you should go right back to sleep. You should dream, but not crazy, psychedelic dreams, if you do, that’s too much. You should not feel groggy when you wake. Some people can’t take even 1 mg.

Take that dosage for three nights, likely it won’t do much, but maybe it’s the right amount for you. After three nights, add another mg, and take 2 mg, see how that works. Keep adding 1 mg until you find the right amount. For me, only 2mg works best. It takes about an hour to kick in, you should have a good 8 hours to sleep, or you will feel groggy.

Problem for me is that Melatonin has absolutely zero effect on me. As a matter of fact it seems like it makes me more awake.

Sone people think that melatonin is useless for them, maybe it is. However, if you don’t actually know what is the effective dosage for you, you might be taking too little. Everyone needs an individualized dosage.
