Quote: Worth a try. Many of those who make a big deal out of being captain also like the hat.
its not about making a big deal about being a Captain. It’s about sparing our passengers from obnoxious advertisements by using all available tools.

Quote: ^^^THIS^^^ scary part is these same captains don’t understand what Captains Authority is for.
swing and a miss, part 2. And you didn’t answer the question. What do YOU do at United?

It was a joke, but the captains main function once the safety requirement is satisfied is to make sure that the company procedures are followed. If the company wants to make annoying announcements to sell credit cards that they profit from, that is their prerogative.

grand slam! Somebody gets it… point A to B safely following FARs and company policies and directives… not get into weeds on types of PAs by the FAs.

If I were to get called by some Flight office puke, I’d simply explain my reasoning. If they said please don’t do it again, I’d give the request its proper attention. It’s more about giving the F/A’s cover, and not forcing our pax to be woke up by a non safety related or operationally important announcement. Most of them hate making that announcement as well.

When a manual or company bulletin mandates an announcement, we just make the announcement. We don’t get to pick and choose which ones we follow. They make the rules and as employees, we follow them. It’s their party, and this is just an hourly paid gig.

Well, I see we don’t see eye to eye. I’ll continue taking care of my crew and pax. You do you. Peace.

Yes, those PAs are annoying but if it's required of the FA to do them, you need to back off. You dudes realize there are ghost riders on board occasionally and it's not worth having to answer to that. Fly the plane safely guys and don't get involved in what the FAs are REQUIRED to say and do.
