Default F/A credit card announcements.

While deadheading and having a nice nap, I was awakened by a loud P/A trying to sell credit cards. When I went to the galley to ask her if she thought it was a good idea to wake up a large % of the airplane who were sleeping, she stated that they have been getting counseled for NOT doing it. My suggestion was to ask the Captain during briefing if he/she would give them cover to not do it. Meaning, when they get called by an inflight supervisor, simply say that the Captain gave them an operational directive under the guise of core 4-caring. I think I’m going to start incorporating this into my briefing. Nobody likes being held captive to advertising; especially when trying to sleep

True… they are following company directives to make the CC announcements… so Captain isn’t going to use Captain's Authority to nix them. I’ve heard they get a kick back incentive if a passenger signs up.

Not sure why you think that the Captain couldn’t/wouldn’t. Once on the airplane, marketing isn’t in charge. It’s obnoxious, and caring is part of core 4. Selling crap isn’t.

Nixing a credit card announcement because he/she doesn’t like it isn’t what Captain’s Authority should be used for…

Are you a Captain here? Or anywhere? I suspect not.

Worth a try. Many of those who make a big deal out of being captain also like the hat.
