I have a class date at Spirit in July. After I accepted the class date, Delta offered me an interview in late June. Out of the blue SWA also invited me to the Virtual Interview also in late June. The conundrum I’m in is that my Delta interview is inside of the 14 day notice I’m required to give at my current airline before my Spirit class date and if I get the SWA in person interview it could potentially be in the middle of my Spirit Training.
1. Start the job with Spirit. It’s the only known you have right now.
2. Interview with Delta. You don’t have a decision to make until they offer you a class date.
3. Schedule the SWA virtual interview for time off during Spirit training. It’s virtual, so it’s not like you have to travel for it. Tell them you’re in training at Spirit, but you’re willing to go from a good airline to a great airline. See if they offer you an in person interview, cross that bridge when you come to it.
If you’re offered the job with Delta, it’s kind of a no brainer.
If you’re offered the job with SWA you have a much tougher decision unless you live in one of their junior domiciles. With only a single fleet type and nearly 10,000 pilots the airline would have to double in size for you to upgrade. The pilot group is very young, and retirements are a trickle compared with Delta. If retirement age goes to 68, you’re looking at well north of a decade even at the most junior domicile.
Bottom line. Go to Spirit. No decision to make on the others until you have a class date in hand.
