"Shockwave" Truck Crashes at AirShow

Subscribe
The heavily modified Peterbuilt uses 3 jet engines, same as the Navy T-2A trainer uses. It set a truck speed record of 376mph. They "race" acrobatic aircraft at airshows. From the video there appears to be tire failure followed by drogue parachute deployment followed by the truck losing directional control and rolling however nothing is certain at this early stage.

I can't even imagine what kind of tires you have to have to be able to put up with those speeds. I remember reading about the Veyron tires:

Quote:
Michelin tests the tires by running them on a dyno at 270mph for twenty seconds, then at 250mph for another twenty seconds. They are able to repeat this cycle twice before the tires fail explosively.

If limited to 250, Michelin says the tires will run in a straight line for fifteen minutes. Any turning significantly shortens their life and, at that speed, they would run out of gas long before then.

As of now, tires are the limiting factor on what speeds can be achieved. Vehicles that set land speed records don't use pneumatic tires.

I watched the vid above...using shaved down truck tires.

Other sources have this as an uncontained engine failure that led to fuel tank/tire failure.
How do you even check the integrity of these tires pre and post run?
