Help with a school project.

I have been asked to help with a high school project my Godson is involved with. If you are willing to help a young aviation enthusiast explore a topic at the forefront of most news reports, then please consider filling out this short survey.

Here is what he wrote:

Since the beginning of the school year I have been taking part in a Capstone program in the college program at my high school called AP Research. This entails building a research project based around a central question to which we will conduct our own research through experimental means. When it came time to find a topic, I thought about the pilot shortage. I built a study around the question:

“How do commercial licensed pilots perceive the solutions for addressing the post-covid domestic pilot shortage?”

I have constructed a two-part method consisting of a questionnaire to identify quantitative data and then have the hopes of a portion of the participants being willing to let me interview them to better understand their answers to the survey.

For reference my target audience is licensed ATP aviators who have experience in operating commercial aircraft prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. I am willing to make exceptions for pilots who have previously transitioned from the military to the commercial sector within the last two years along with currently retired commercial pilots who left their occupation within the last two years. Below is an attached link to the survey.

I went to the link. You lost me when you started by asking for personal information.

I don't know you.

Your survey asks leading, loaded questions based on assumptions. It ought not.

I appreciate you taking the time to at least take a look at this young man's project. I am sorry you didn't feel it met your requirements and thus not worthy of your time. The questions were authored by an 18 year old, who wants so desperately to do what we all do; fly airplanes. Unfortunately, he will never get to reach that goal, but he didn't let it stop him from pursuing an interest in aviation in whatever capacity he could find.

Leading, loaded, biased, and presumptive questions are all part of the learning process for him at this point. Maybe as he gains some life experiences he will improve his efforts, but for now this is what he produced and I couldn't be prouder of him. Adding on to your critique, I would even add that grammatically, the questions are difficult to read! But, I am surprised you (or anyone else) would feel the need to provide your 2 cents instead of just moving on the next post.

Concur. That is a show stopper for a lot of pilots.

Maybe, at the end, ask an optional question if the pilot is willing to be interviewed, provide name, cell, or email. But optional.

Thank you both for the constructive criticism. He has changed the questionnaire to make personal data optional. New link is below:

You might add to question #5 for those of us already retired.
