What would it take for a Y vote on LOA?

What's it going to take for a Yes vote?? Real simple...more information. More detail from the company, or from the union.

In it's current form, this thing is a blank check. In more ways than one. What is it going to take to persuade a lot of folks--including myself--from a firm NO vote to casting a go-ahead vote? It's a pretty short list:

Taxes. We continue to hear nothing regarding the facts on how our guys are going to be affected by the taxing authorities of multiple countries. We hear words like "equalization" and are expected to just trust Fred's tax preparation service? Fat chance. Who do you think the company would rather pay--the company or the individual? (Duh) Haven't heard yet within $50,000 how bad the tax bite will be. So far, we're hearing crickets.

SVT. This alone is a huge negative. Just a few words of legalese, that sum up to "we can send you--involuntarily--away from your family". For 3 months at a time? A lot of people left the military for that very reason. Sounds like a huge giveback, and a bad trend.

Healthcare. Once again...crickets. Your MEM POS will be worth as much as your Barnes & Noble card over there.

Finally, I hate to see the sad realization that sets in once those that finally get over there learn the true story. Greenbacks don't work overseas, and even if you're willing to drop your lifestyle significantly, this sounds like a recipe to financial disaster. Which may be a good reason the only MEC rep to actually live overseas voted against it.

So maybe there's more to the story here, but the roaring silence tells me otherwise. Without more info, I can't vote yes on this thing and watch as a handful of new guys get educated the hard way.

What will it take? I guess if all the SFS pilots said "yes, you bet it's a good deal" than I'd be a go on it.

You asked.

It would need an increase in the housing allowance, a provision for tuition assistance and no STV for me to vote yes

STV is the only non-negotiable thing for me. Everything else is up for discussion.

I was hoping for the nightly maid!

It would be nice if they would offer the rate of an 0-5 for housing and utilities but I would accept the rate for an E-1 which is about double what FedEx is offering. Can't believe we've all been demoted back to lower than a new recruit.

I'm actually not going to bid an FDA but feel I have a vested interest in protecting our pride and profession.

Cathay Pacific's package would be a start...

Basically COLA, Housing, and Tuition assistance.

That's my simple response also, match Cathay and it's a go.
