They're between 3 and 12 yrs

What a joke. AFSC dependant, length dependant, of course. I bet the 3 yr is no more than 25K/yr and the 12 yr well...thatll get to that 600K, maybe and ya know, taxes.

Plus, I love how they still call em bonuses. It's not a bonus; it's a contract.

"You're valued, we need you, you've served above the mark, here's 25K, no strings." -- that's a bonus.

"Take thIs money, you're valued (well now since everyone is getting out), we'll pay it out, over time, probably not on time, and you'll pay taxes on it, and you'll owe us some more uhh, years, yeah, years, just sign here." --- contract, not a bonus

Anyone that stays in, God bless, we need folks to serve. But, they probably need their heads examined.

It won't solve the problem. There were guys who once got a bonus to stay and then got a bonus to leave.

If money is an officer’s primary motivation, this new program is wildly insufficient. For those who are motivated to continue serving, they will have to consider whether they are willing to sign away their ability to turn down a terrible assignment. These programs have always been ineffective when airline hiring is strong and are a waste when the airlines are not hiring.

My advice to folks on active duty is to ignore these programs and choose to stay or go by balancing desire to serve and desire to financially take care of your family. Oh, and max out those TSP contributions, Congress likes to make free with your retirement benefits.

That's doing a disservice to the Service actually in my humble opinion. What a joke!

I chose to leave at O-5 but only because I wanted to do something more exciting, I could've joined the majors. Now I get paid 30% less compared to someone with the same years as I have in the private sector. If it wasn't for it, I'd have stayed in uniform and done my 20 (and more). I kind of miss it, too

Those who will take the AVB are most likely planning to stay in and retire. This was the case for me. Also, none of my friends who took the AVB said it changed their mind to stay in and retire. They were planning to put in a full 20 years anyway.

Exactly! The program is kinda pointless for AD, IMO.

For quite a few, the same 50,000/year is offered in the reserves for AGR slots. Why anyone would stay AD when they could transition to the reserves and then CHOOSE to either participate full time and still get an AD retirement ,or, participate part time is interesting.
In my case, I left AD...picked up a seniority number...picked up an AGR gig that takes me through AD retirement (with bonus). My plan had been to do 20 then get out, but "big blue" was putting some options on the table that just were not palatable to the family at the time.
