Has anyone been denied or granted employment while having a special issuance on their medical?

Well I got my medical but with a special issuance.

The special issuance appears in Limitations as:

Not valid for any class after ___________.

"A year from the date issued"

Yeah me too. If they wanna know just tell them. Airline folks got to realize that some of us "highly qualified" crewmembers are only human. Good luck....

Were you denied or granted NEW employment with it? Or are you saying they may not ask or notice the time limitation?

It shouldn't affect your situation, provided that you have all the necessary documentation to clarify your situation, and can obtain an FAA first class medical.

I know a fellow that has sleep apnea and has a similar limitation. It hasn't had an effect on his being hired, and he recently went through a med screening by a major airline and didn't have any issues.

Just make sure that when you interview (or go for a company physical) you take all of the necessary background documentation that you show to your AME each time you get a medical.

I'm not so sure about this. It would depend on the medical condition and the airline in question. You would have a MUCH better chance at most regioanls as opposed to certain majors.

The good news is that the general trend over the last ten years is for airlines to be more lenient towards medical issues.
