Quote: Hey "Slick"..........I think you read me wrong. First, it's no "whine" not "no win". Second, I agree accept that there really is no second guessing at all. The decisions are the crews (Capt), and the crews alone. If an LCA wants to give me grief for a sound operational decision based on experience and safety considerations.....so what?
Sorry got caught up in the moment. Did not mean to come off curt. Brain acting faster than my fingers can type..............

This also leads to another question, if fuel savings is sooo important now, then why do we fly an empty antique, fuel-guzzling, B-727 EMPTY every day between BOS & ORD, burning about 27,000 lbs. of dead dinosaurs?

I understand that maybe there is always more stuff going to BOS and from ORD every day, but the cross-country reposition? That's the best an elite logistics company can come up with?

We have been doing the same with a Maddog between NRT and NGO for a long time. This plane goes empty both ways just to keep a slot open!

What a couple of knuckleheads!! Everyone knows that an airplane burns less fuel, if it's empty. It's all part of the "fuel sense" program. What? You think we should put some freight on it, and burn more fuel? Gosh!

ANC - HKG.... went back for sched rest period up 1800 # of gas...

came back up three hours later down 4000#...ret-ro.... F/O's weren't making gas like they were susposed to! Fortunately there are places to drop into for gas, KIX/NRT... but we need to keep paying attention, doing that Capt &^$%.

ya never know what's gonna be.. but Gilder Radner was right..."it's alway's something"

Does anybody know how much fuel the GPU burns vs the APU?

More to it than that.
Cost of av gas vs. diesel/unleaded.
Cost of hours on an APU vs GPU, (Does a GPU have a HOBBS meter?)

Cost of APU vs. Cost of parking lot/ramp buses that sit and idle for hours and hours and hours.
