Do any FDX pilots know what the average time spent as a second officer is for a pilot based out of Memphis? Is it realistic to get hired and then be a first officer a year later??

Tip-

One should be able to move to the right seat of a wide body at around the six month point, unless you are hired directly into the seat (ANC or Subic...for now). Why quit plumbing though? There is an ancient argument concerning slave ship plumber seniority versus MD-11 reserve juniority and the answer varies individually.

I'm not sure I understand the lingo completely but I'm assuming slave ship plumbing refers to the 727 SO seat. I was curious about the time to upgrade to be an FO becuase the pay seemed to be quite a bit higher for a 2nd yr FO versus a 2 yr SO

Right now guys are upgrading to FO in about 6 to 8 months. So yes, you would be in the right seat pay wise for the 2nd year. What he/she was trying to say was a lot of our pilots will give up the initial money and work on seniority for quality of life. If you are all about the money, the rumor is we will be hiring directly into the right seat of the MD11 soon.

I will go to MD-11 Training in July, 1 year and 4 months after starting. If I had bid ANC I could have started about 4-6 months earlier. If I had bid the DC-10 I would have started 10 months earlier. I wasn't able to hold the Airbus or MD-11 (LAX) on the last Bid.

They offer the Airbus out of New Hire if you want to go to Subic. (sometimes)

Aye, HoursHore. What do you mean by: "They off the Airbus out of New Hire if you want to go to Subic." I'm not familiar with the lingo. Not yet at least, but I'm getting there.

I meant they have "OFFERED" the Airbus out of training in the past.

Is Subic the only domicile that you can go to in reference to going straight to FO or can you do that from MEM?

Sat with some NH at lunch yesterday. They were all going to the 727 as SO's.
Will they hire into the FO seat for the A300?? They currently don't have a training plan that would cover a NH going to a pilot seat on a wide body. Guessing it would require several meetings, much paper pushing, FAA blessing, and other associated schoolhouse/management BS. Rumor is it will happen on the next bid. NH's this spring/summer in all likelihood. And if so I would guess that Subic, off the street, would be possible.
