Quote: Tilton and Parker have been the biggest advocates of mergers for years. Hopefully this merger will go through. I still think UAL/CAL would have been better for the industry, but UAL/LCC can still help pricing power.

If the industry continues to not accept mergers and the pricing power that comes with them, we will continue to see airlines fold as they price themselves out of business. CAL made a bad choice.
You keep saying 'CAL made a bad choice.' I'd love for you to expand on that for us. Did you consider that CAL leadership may know a few things that we don't? DAL/NWA isn't a done deal. Perhaps they don't see it getting approved... Let's let the chips fall where they may. I'm fairly sure everyone would've preferred NO mergers to start happening and let the best competitor come out on top.

Didn't the United and USAirways idea get shot down once already back in 1999 or 2000?

Quote: How would this merger work for pilots given the whole USAPA thing?
Would be pretty interesting. I see a scenario where the merger is held outside of ALPA merger policy where ALPA and it's deep pockets represent the United pilots while the USAPA represents the case for the USAir guys. They will probably be trounced, and then an election will be held for the merged airline in which United will prevail if for no other reason than size.

When you say "they" will get trounced," I understand that you mean the US Air pilot group.

But, how do you think their seniority list will be merged? DOH, previous arbitrated award, lottery?

I mean even if the East guys get ratioed into UAL with their DOH in the new US Air, won't they come out ahead?

Whatever happens, it will be messy and to be truthful the only way mamagement can even hope to pull it off is if they keep the pilot groups seperate. (I know. I can't believe I'm saying that)

But, the only group I see getting the short end right now is the West guys.

Good luck to everyone...

I am curious, why do you think the west gus would get the "short end of the stick"? are you unaware that the usairways seniority list was resolved and accepted by management a year ago? The east's doh means nothing as they are slotted in with awa guys.

where did you get DOH? The arbitration is final, binding and already accepted by management. All voting in USAPA did is make the East look stupid and a couple law firms rich, it doesn't change anything.

Can the East guys make the argument that that SLI was made in agreement with an entirely different union and that it is in effect void?

Finial, binding and accepted by management and both parties. Yes (maybe). But now one of the parties - actually two of the parties - are no longer in existence. So, now what?

If I'm asking, you can best be assured that the East guys are asking the same question.

So, no flame cause I don't care. I'm really just asking what you guys have heard.
