This is a quick question about my early logbook entries a couple years ago when I first started flying.

A few of my entries (first page) were written in blue ink, something I learned early on in my training is not professional. Also for my first solo, my instructor filled out my log book and for comments wrote "FIRST SOLO!!!!" - something I realized at the time might be bad later on down the road. Since then, I have only written my entries in black ink with a special pen (used only for logbook) and taken extra special care that only I make entries (other than dual signatures or signoffs) into my logbook.

Give those early discontinuities... should I have anything to worry about - especially when I start looking for jobs and my logbook gets looked at?

I couldn't imagine any interviewer who is going to choose not to hire you because your pre-private logbook entries are in blue ink.

Actually, i think "FIRST SOLO!!!!" is completely professional. Its one of the most important hurdles of your pilot career. I would smack your instructor if he didn't write something congratulatory in your logbook. Any interviewer with half a brain will remember what it was like on their first solo.

Don't you worry...it'll all be ok. There are guys out there (me) who had their logbooks stolen. Other guys do everything electronically. A little blue ink is what it is...its not like its pink highlighter.

Your first logbook no one will care at all whatsoever. I used to always write FIRST SOLO in huge letters in the comments block when my students soloed, it was a huge day and will always be a huge day. As for the blue pen I have seen logbooks where the first 100 hours alternate between blue pen, black pen, felt tip, gel ink pencil and yes even colored pencil. You know what you want your logbook to look like now and thats great. The only reason one would ever care is because it is an attention to detail issue and thats all. My handwriting is terrible and my logbook shows it but am I going to hire someone to make my entries for me in impeccable penmanship? NO.

You are fine, move on, no one cares.

The black ink thing comes from the military culture of aviation. It is by no means a requirement of any sort. Also nobody is going to hold something like that against you from private pilot days anyway.

It is OK to make comments of a recreational nature in your logbook, just keep it G-rated.

Blue and black are fine. Pink with sparkles, not so much.
