I think you should not even think about it. As a CFI you will make more money 16 dollars to fly an airliner as an F/O is just unacceptable. It is up to us the pilots to increase the wages.
The rules of supply and demand showed last year that schools can pay higher wages for a CFI so if we rather stay as a CFI then eventually the airline jobs have to pay more attract qualified individuals.... I know the current conditions may make it unrealistic but it is up to us the young people to change our future; be patient!!!!.
The notion that we go to a regional (and honestly in a "third world country" you will make three times more money as pilot of a B1900, I hate the fact that all the money goes to the managers of these outfits)for only a couple of years is gone; today we can almost all of us expect to spend a good part of our careers as a regional pilot(at lower wages).
Once again give the value that you deserve as an aspiring airline pilot if you undermine your value we all at the end will pay the price.

THE NOTION THAT REGIONAL AIRLINE PILOTS ARE CHEAP HAS TO END WE ARE PROFESSIONAL WE SHOULD GET REMUNERATED AS SUCH.

What is considered "acceptable"??? Opinions vary wildly... To me, someone operating an aircraft that is 1 seat away from violating a scope clause, yet receiving half the compensation of a major airline pilot, is doing the same, if not more of an injustice to this industry than some guy who operates a 19 seat aircraft out of KBFE, and doesn't operate even one route that comes close to resembling a major airline route. The 1900D pilot operates routes that even other regionals wouldn't think of touching. No direct competition, whatsoever. You don't ever have to worry about Lakes using pilot wages to undercut your regional airline to attain a partnership with a major airline. Meaning, in my opinion, our affect on industry wages is nil. From what I recall, I don't think regional airlines were ever in the realm of being considered career positions, until the birth of the RJ. That was back when the QOL and compensation for the only CAREER passenger-carrying airline positions, which were at the majors, were a lot better than it is now. I don't recall anyone complaining that some Jetstream pilot who was outstation-based in Rhinelander, WI was ruining the wages and QOL for an MSP-based 727 captain. I may be wrong, though...
A wage increase would be nice, but logicaly it would not work. With most of the Majors flirting with chapter 11 or just purely going out of business within the last 6-8 months, a wage increase would be a death sentence to any airline. Not to mention the economy sucks!! good luck bargaing out better pay and QOL.

The reason that flight schools recently started paying more is because they couldnt attract CFI's and keep them on while the airlines lowered their mins to a commercial certificate and a pulse. It's not supply and demand, its the LACK of supply and demand (no new students comin in the door, and all the CFI's jumping ship for the chance at tubine/jet time). With record fuel prices, flight schools had to charge exorbitant amounts for POS aircraft with +10,000 flight hours. There's no value there, and if people dont see the value then they wont buy.

Being a CFI is a great step towards what could once again be a good career. However, SE dual given or even ME dual given dosent match up to turbine time. Every one has to be their own judge and as pilots we ourselves are our most critical judge.

Being at a compnay that employs turbo-props I dont feel that our wages bring everybody down. 1900lux is right, the routes that we fly are not interfearing with majors. Infact I think they help. The flying that we do brings all of the passengers from the smaller communities that otherwise would not be able to get to a major airport to hop on UAL, SWA, NWA, ect. we DO NOT compeate with those airlines to go to Williston, ND, Sheriden, Wy, Riverton, WY or Sidney, MT.

Steak
just for the record williston north dakota sucks
How did you come up with that? Is it the fact that metal gets colder than ice up there or that its only minutes from Canada?
With as bad as PSA has become lately its not a bad option. So, Yes I would chose to leave PSA for Great Lakes. Upgrade at Great Lakes will be faster then the 4+ year upgrades coming at PSA.
Lol... Old thread is old.
