I actually had a scheduler admit to me that the Raw Score was not very significant when assigning rotations, long and short call.....more of an intuitive dart on the wall.

Also, when a line holder, and a reserve fly the exact same rotation to the minute, I can find no acceptable reason for the reserve to be paid less....even senior bubba's are on reserve.....

At my former life, we had 3hr, 12hr, and 24hr reserve show times which were bid on, not assigned by schedulers. Also, after some pressure from the local FSDO and agressive union action, no reserve period was longer than 12 hours......ie: 3hr show time, assignment window 9am til 9pm....Never had the delta continuous long call window.

Scope is my current #1, but for many of us on reserve for the forseeable future, Reserve needs to be a bit kinder, and gentler.

Flame away, nomex in place !
The 24 hr call is not that big of a deal domestically because you get put on rest 12 hr prior to report.
Now international short call stinks. I guess if you get called out at 11 PM in your 23rd hr, you can as for the first and third breaks

As for trips. They do assign those to the people with the lowest raw in the bucket. I watch it very closely and unless there is a yellow in there, it always goes to the one that has not been assigned SC for the next day that is the closest to the top of the list. In reality the only arbitrary thing that Scheduling does is assing SC. The rest is done by the computer. They just call.
You can request SC if you want, it can work to your favor or completely backfire. Depends on what you want or need for your given situation. Sometimes I request it, sometimes I hope they can't find me.

As to spreading out the flying I've been senior on reserve and I've got friends near the bottom and we both end up at 69 hours on the month but I must admit to sometimes seeing senior guys about 2/3 of the way through the month having low 30-50 raw scores while more junoir folks have 100-120 raw scores. But in my personal experience they will even it out.

By the way, I've also called twice at 8am when I wasn't awarded a trip I put in a yellow slip for and it was given to someone behind me. When I called the scheduler was like, yeah I was looking at your yellow slip but I couldn't do it because xyz. Once it wasn't just about who was senior or the raw score or the days left in the bucket but it can be max hours on the month, 30/7, etc. Seems to me trips are assigned, excluding slips, to the person in the right bucket of days remaining and then the lowest raw score with some leeway given to them to do what they believe is the smartest thing to keep the operation staffed given what they have to work with.
Random interjection here.... just got back from a cruise. Been off of this thread since the afternoon of the 21st. I've got the daunting task in front of me of reviewing the winding saga of the latest and greatest for the past 6 days now... giddy up!

And add 100 76 seaters...
Quote: Scope is important........more pay would be nice.........but ladies and gentlemen we HAVE GOT to do something about reserve!! God it sucks!!

How bout this one for starters - first reserve day must be long call (stole that from jetblue)

suggestions?
Yea, go back to the C2K reserve system. Used to bid it all the time and my golf handicap was below 10.
Quote: Did they say anything about new construction at JFK? New terminals or pilot lounge news?
Nothing that we haven't heard before; would like to take over and improve T4, improve T2 and raze T3. Talking to the Port Authority and trying to find the money.

Expect to make the changes at LGA next year pending DOJ, DOT, etc approval of the slot swaps. Plan to move some of the domestic flying from JFK to LGA.

Also, of the 142 slots swaped with USAIR in LGA, aprox 30 will be mainline and aprox 110 will be DCI.

Sounds about right. Might be a few more mainline, but not much. Great for Mesa and OH.

Makes sense...will be interesting to see the new mainline cities!
