Agreed. Used an iPad at my previous gig and that things was solid. My surface has been a complete POS. My record is 5 reboots on a 4 hour transcons. The last of which was at TOD on the Seavu...

And I thought it was just me. Mine goes to sleep on departure and when I'm in the climbout, trying to connect to the swanky weather/turb app, the thing completely restarts, and 6 out of 9 times it crashes, gives me a blue screen with an apologetic little face icon that says, "your computer crashed and we need to collect more data. Please do not turn it off."
Haven't had it happen to me on descent yet. Yet. The stupid thing was marginally acceptable before the OS update, but now it's entirely questionable. And I don't know if that giant blue bag we still carry can help me out of a situation on descent when getting a new arrival due to weather and a new runway due to congestion comes along.

I salute Delta for their loyalty to a corporate customer that flies Delta "exclusively" but if safety is primary, this surface thingy ain't cutting it.
Quote: Legally yes if GA finds out you are working there. Some forget to tell them.
Great point. That could really hurt if GA found out after a couple forgetful years. I don't imagine they will garner much SLI interest from FL, TN or TX. I had briefly considered it, but SLI isn't exactly something for a commuter anyway. It is structured more for in base applicants. The GA tax burden is definitely a downside to the job.
Sounds like MD-88 guys got frozen in place till '18. Will there be a new expected training letter? If not, any rough quess on the impact?

I had the same issue with mine and it is a setting that was turned on. Tap on the battery icon in the task bar, then power and sleep settings. There is a slide bar that says "Save me power when my device knows I'm away". Turn that off and it won't power all the down unless it's been like 4 hours instead of 10 minutes
I don't see what the hold up is on the data cards. They are just sim cards... cross platform. They work on any tablet. In the meantime, we've got international crews sitting among the passengers in the gate area trying to pirate questionable wifi signals so they can get a flight plan, weather, and maintenance information about the flight. Every other airline has data. They do their jobs in the cockpit, like professionals, out of sight and sound and earshot of the passengers. It's been 3 years...

We went through this in the nineties when GA went after all the SLI's. A large number returned to the line. It was rumored the company paid the tax for some to keep the training department open. The same thing applies for full time ALPA work out of the ATL HQ.

Probably not a true rumor. There is a famous (infamous?) tax case from 1929 (Old Colony Trust) that still holds true today. When a third party (Delta) pays a person's income tax on his behalf, the payment is income that is taxable to the employee.

Correct it is taxable income so if you would owe 20K for state tax they pay you 30k total to offset the increased federal tax.

And then you pay tax on the $30k as well....it is a vicious cycle. 😁
