Where is NJA basing their new hires out of their 5? I live in Hawaii and just wondering where their putting them.
Also if anyone has any information on the training contract, duration, prorated??

From what I understand, currently people are being hired into LAX, CMH, and maybe PBI in the not to distant future. As for a training contract, there is none.

I have another question, After some period of time are the new hires able to move away from the base, and will NJA send you to the plane like the more senior pilots?

I think you might have misunderstood the airlining issue. There is no difference between newhires and senior pilots for the purpose of moving you to your plane. Newhires are airlined to their plane just as anyone else. The only difference is the bases that newhires can use. It doesn't appear that the company will let new hires change bases.

For anyone trying to get a grasp on this:
All pilots, regardless of seniority, are required to get themselves to their base, whether they live 10 miles away or 10,000 miles away. Once at your base, the company is responsible for sending you to your plane.

After time do the other bases than the 5 become available? Correct me if I'm wrong but in the past there were more options. Thanks

You are correct, in the past there were 25 bases. The company believes that they need to consolidate bases to be more efficient and that they will find enough pilots in those domiciles. The best thing applicants can do is turn down the job and state that the limited domiciles is the reason. Technically, newhires could eventually get into other bases (just like it could snow in Miami), but it would take longer than the duration of the present contract. To be realistic, I would say a newhire should plan on his domicile being permanent. This will become a BIG issue when negotiations resume in 4.5 years.

It can become an issue IF the company wants an LOA for something before your 4.5 years comes up.

At first after the new contract was signed they were letting people choose from the 5, but the contract does not require this. Many people chose DAL, TEB, and PBI over LAX and CMH and they want to balance things out so they are limiting those they interview to the people who told them they would like to live in LAX or CMH (they are including a domicile preference form with the application package) until things are are little more balanced. There have been indications that they will start interviewing or the other bases again as early as the end of the summer, but nothing is definite.

The current contract states that pilots hired after the contract took effect would have to be in the top 30 percent of the seniority list to gain home basing (but allows taking those who already live in the domiciles who are senior to not be included in the number of people in front of new hires for home based seniority). What that means is that currently there are between 20 and 30 percent of the pilots hired pre-contract who already live in TEB, DAL, PBI, CMH, or LAX and those pilots would not count against getting into the top 30 percent to get home-based- it makes it easier to get home based that way. However, the union told those pilots hired at the beginning of this year that it would take appoximately 5000 pilots on the seniority list for them to get home based. These new hires have seniority numbers starting around 2200. The company needs to hire quite a few pilots during the duration of the contract for any one hired post contract to get home based. I don't plan on getting home based via the current contract- I think it will take another contract to get it for me since it is hard to believe there will be no hiccups in the hiring process getting that many on property. For anyone who plans on coming here- do not expect home basing during this contract and expect a real fight during the next round of negotiations to get it for any more that already have it.
