CONTINENTAL MEC SUPPORTS STRIKING AMERIJET PILOTS

Sep. 1, 2009

The pilots and flight engineers of Amerijet, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 769, have been locked in a bitter dispute with management while trying to negotiate their first contract. In July, the National Mediation Board released them to a 30-day cooling off period. Shortly before midnight on August 26, 2009, management walked out of the negotiations. The cooling off period expired at 12:01 am on August 27, 2009; at which point the Amerijet pilots and flight engineers were released to self-help. The Amerijet pilots went on strike at 1630 EDT that afternoon.

While Amerijet may not be an ALPA carrier, it is imperative that we support all airline pilots in a fight for a fair and equitable contract. If anyone is in the Miami area and is willing to support the pilots and flight engineers of Amerijet, they will be picketing the offices of the airline 24/7. The offices are located next to the ATC tower in Cargo City at Miami International Airport. The address is:

AMERIJET INTERNATIONAL
6185 NW 18 ST BLG 716-B
MIAMI, FL 33142

Thank you and fly safely.

Glad to see an ALPA unit officially support the strike at AJT. Thanks for taking the time to do so.

Capital Cargo ALPA pilots have also been supporting the Amerijet pilots and walking the line with them.

Hopefully more groups follow suit.

ALPA National looks really, really pathetic by not putting out a press release in support of Amerijet pilots...

Quote: Do these press releases really mean anything? Or is it just like the government saying that they have a strong dollar policy but do nothing to back the statement up?
I'll be the first to admit that an organization mired in bureaucracy induced atrophy like ALPA national needs a wake up call, but if nothing else a timely press release in support of the Amerijet pilots would remind the ALPA membership at large that our national union is aware of labor management relations in the industry. It might even help remind furloughed ALPA members to not consider crossing the line at Amerijet for a flying job just because it's not an ALPA strike. Lip service maybe, but I say our organization needs to do the right thing. Jayson has shown the way, hopefully national will spend some time and money showing support.

ALPA Supports Amerijet Pilots

As many of you know, Amerijet crewmembers have been on strike for six days. This unfortunate turn of events is a result of being locked in a bitter dispute with management. These men and women are looking for basic improvements in their first contract while dealing with a company that has shown no respect for them or the negotiating process.

Although Amerijet is not an ALPA carrier, it is imperative that we support all airline pilots in the fight for fair and equitable contracts. To that end, if any of you are in the Miami area and are willing to support the pilots and flight engineers of Amerijet, they will be picketing the offices of the airline 24/7.

The pilots and flight engineers of Amerijet, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 769, have not yet contacted ALPA for support in the strike. However, we want to make it clear that ALPA fully supports the Amerijet crewmembers in this dispute. A delegation from ALPA’s national Strategic Preparedness and Strike Committee will travel to Miami to offer its assistance to the crewmembers of Amerijet.

Nothing displays our solidarity more than showing support through e-mails or letters of support, or better yet, walking the picket line.
