The RAA's take on pilot calling in fatigue is to send them to go get tested for sleep apnea. That happen to me recently after calling in fatiuge

Quote: I don't know who you work for but, at my regional about 4% of the pairings have a day that is 13 hours or longer and none have more then one day in the pairing 13 hours or longer.
Had 4 four days last month. every one had a 13.5 hour 8 leg day on the last day. oh, and with a 5am show. More for this month too.

Quote: Mine would be one of them. I had a 5 day every day was at LEAST 12.5 hours of duty and 1 day of 15 hours.

Can they do that? Can I have crew scheduling tested for mental retardation? What do they do with you if they test you and find you to have sleep apnea? Do you get canned?

Sleep Apnea dequal your medical. There are a few companies out there that send and have sent their pilot to get a medical or tested for sleep apnea after a few fatigue calls. It's there way of intimidation. It should be that way but they get a way with it like everything else

It's only intimidation if you let it be, and they succeed. If they're paying for it, let them spend all that money. Part of the diagnosis is questioning. If if you've ever actually fallen asleep in the cockpit, or anywhere else for no reason then you might. If you answer the question, "I called in fatigued because I'm tired and might fall asleep." Then you're clear. Just say, "I'm making sure that I'm properly rested."

Thanks for getting me my laugh for the day

I privacy laws should protect you from having to disclose to the company why you are calling in sick or fatigued. Its absolutely none of the companies buisness other than what is on your medical how "healthy" you are. That's between you, your AME and Oak City.

After 12 years of English in grade school, and 9 credit hours more of English classes in college... it wasn't until NOW I realize the significance of paragraphs.

Good read, though.
