Some updated news.
I heard today that the FAA Flight Inspection was operating under what was referred to a 'continuing resolution'. This person didn't know how that might affected the hiring situation at the present moment, but currently he suspected that it meant that until they have some FIRM numbers for people leaving that the hiring process might be slower compared to past timelines.

Hey the extra part of the application that asked about knowledge, skills and ability. Did you reference courses you took in college?

The way things are going I doubt it mattered much what you put in that block of your application; but I didn't put anything like that in there personally.

I didn't either. I took that as them wanting to know what your experience was post education. What you have learned while working after college that could benefit them.

I did put my type of degree and the year I graduated in there somewhere; plus it is on my resume.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to determine if my husband's application is as it should be. He applied to a DC position and wasn't referred. He applied for the FAA openings that are still posted back in October, maybe, but that doesn't close until Sept. 2010. I wish I had seen that opening that was 30 days. He's a 10-point 30% vet, 21 years flying heavy jets (B-1, JSTARS, KC135), 5200 hours, can't remember his PIC and instruction hours--he was a military flight instructor for years. Was laid off last summer after flying Lear 35s for a year. Anyhow, just wondering how this process goes. I'm the researcher/secretary, can you tell? Ha ha!

Any that were referred were mostly likely in the same position. In this case, and with your husband's military experience of 21 years as stated above - I really doubt that any classes he took in COLLEGE would matter much. I'm sure that there are some classes that he took during his time in the military that might be of interest, but if they are truly going all the way back to college for a retired military pilot then they are stretching - at least to get to an interview!

Well, I thought it might be a stretch to go back to college. My thought is that a lot of the positions in desirable areas like ATL are going to go to some internal transfer and you have to work your way up to the bigger cities. I worked in TV and that is how it was for us. Good luck and thanks for your responses.

I misunderstood your one post about timing. Did you husband get his paperwork in by the November deadline for the last job announcement or is he looking forward to the next announcement?
