I share my experience at LBQ with those I currently work with in the 121 world and they all cringe. It is - bar none - THE toughest/most challenging flying you'll experience. The work schedules and equipment are better these days. The maintenance is very good - all issues are fixed. Yet many cannot handle Part 91 single pilot ops, into uncontrolled fields, in the middle of the night, weather on its @$$, shooting nonprecision approaches over and over again (when I was there 6 to 11 approaches per night). Great place to build experience yet it is high risk - caused me to look for a new job. The cowboy days are over - they have 24 hour dispatch to help - if you need an alternate you can go to your alternate. Very good pay and benefits. This job will make you old quick. If you have a family you won't see them. This is night freight flying. When you wake after sleeping all day, you go to work. On your days off you're awake while your family sleeps. Very important note - the old management guys are still running the show - this, in my opinion, is an issue.

Now THAT is a BOLD statement - and without even a hint of a disclaimer or experience in many different types of flying that others may have experienced.

Night freight flying is certainly one of the most challenging types of flying and I'd guess that not many would argue that. Much of what you say in the post above is echoed by those I work with who have spent time in that environment.

You mean like flying-in-Alaska tough, or just like night-freight tough?

I had a few friends who flew for them. Both say that S.B and A.M are 2 of the worst people to work with. The MTC. is good though. J.L knows his stuff and there are a few others in the hangar at RDG that know how to fix it right

Someone told me that the pilots have to self de-ice there, and that the tail of the PC-12 is over 14' high. So, do they do this from the top of a boom truck? I don't understand how legal this is.

Their way or the Highway! Playground politics at best. Mx is exceptional but not perfect by any means.

Too much negative on this place. The FAA is very short handed. It will only take another accident. They have 2 fatal accidents on the books now and other serious injuries to boot. You want to be crippled, burnt to a crisp, or just suffer wearing a full nomex suit in 100 degree heat. Apply. You'll get good at wearing full, nomex gloves too.

Actually 3 fatals! I heard their insurance requires the nomex.

Heard a Quest guy came within 1/4 of an inch of a Lear 60 guy at TEB the other night. He flipped out!!! I think it was a guy based here.
