I really doubt your sexuality has anything to do with you not getting hired. Now a days in the area I live anyways, no one cares if your gay. Jobs are just hard to find now a days. I've never had a aviation job but my sexuality has never seemed to be an issue with anyone at my current summer job or at school. Just keep trying and don't give up. Most of the major airlines have gotten good scores on HRC's website anyways. HRC | Best Places to Work 2010
I'm not an airline HR guy by any means, but why should it make a difference if you are gay as long as you keep it out of the workplace? How will they even know unless you rub it all up in their face?

Neutral, professional appearances are everything in the business world!

I agree, Neutral, professional appearances are everything but how will he know if the airline he's trying to get hired into has benefits for his significant other? In a world were some of our basic civil rights are missing we have to sometimes ask our employers what they are willing to give us that the law doesn't require.
Flamebait.
Quote: As a gay male pilot I have found it very difficult to find a job these days. I am starting to feel as if my would be employers are using my sexuality as a another way to weed out potential pilots. I am becoming very discouraged, and I don't know how to deal with my current feelings.

I was wondering if anyone else had any insight.
it's interesting how this topic is your very first post. if this is truly a legitimate question, ask yourself how you are approaching your job hunt. If you're showing up with your eyebrows penciled on, make up, obvious fake tan, a pink suit, and speak with that ridiculous inflection that some adopt, then chances are you aren't going to get hired anywhere but a restaurant (or as a flight attendant).

If anything, employers would be interested in hiring you to diversify. Just imagine the job you could have if you were gay, black, and female.

With that being said, there are thousands on the street looking for work right now, same as you. Your misfortune has nothing to do with your sexual preference (unless it reeks of unprofessionalism).

by doing research (i.e. company websites, forums such as this one, etc.). I'm sure that if I wanted to know if (for example) skywest offers those benefits, I could simply ask. This website or many others would give me the info I needed in probably ten minutes or less.

Stop playing the 'basic civil rights' card. it's gotten old. insurance for your boyfriend isn't a civil right. if you were married on the other hand, now that's a completely different story.
Alright. Marco hasn't been back to respond to any of our collective advice and I can see the focus shifting here - so good bye Gay Aviator thread.
