Quote: Did you just pull this out of your a$$ or do you actually know of military pilots who weren't able to make it through the grueling Pt 121 training in the allotted time because they "have to learn a new way of flying"?
I know many that have had a hard time adjusting to airline life. Some even use guard jobs to avoid their airline work. Doesn't seem they are happy flying trips versus missions.

Quote: Easy solution to this problem. The airlines have seen the fraud and abuse of ML. Perhaps in the future they won't hire as many MIL pilots. With a large cache of qualified regional pilots already working in the airline world it would make sense. This will help reduce training time as MIL pilots have to learn a new way of flying. In effect all the abuse to the ML system that takes place today will make it harder on your buddies later. But then again you guys are an "army of one".

I do have one question. Heard a "reach" flight in euro airspace recently. Why do those guys sound ao panicked/scared on the radio? The octave level sounds like a crash is imminent.

Yep, because flying an airliner is so tough.

You're a clown bro.

Different isn't always difficult. It is an adjustment that takes time. With all the ML guys taking time off for "duty" it would behoove the airlines to reduce those cost in the future. Why hire a pilot that is not going to be available to work for you? There would be no added cost of USERRA if you don't employ these people. Again there is a large pool of pilots already qualed that can do the job with no strings attached. I think USERRA and the ML abusers are going to make things worse for you guys in the long run.

I can easily answer this...

1. Not hiring someone because they are a reservist or guardsman is called discrimination. Its just like discriminating against someone based on color, sex, or religion...you obviously can't do that. Now if a person isn't qualified, that's a different story; however any mil pilot is MORE than qualified to fly a fatty at 0.74 mach for 4 hours straight and level. GMAFB.

2. When an airline hires a mil guy, they know exactly what they're getting...i.e. a pilot that came from the highest caliber training in the world.

Lambourne-

What exactly is the cost of an airline hiring a dude who is a reservist? Maybe we should just hire all of the regional dudes trained at Gulfstream?? That would be better? Maybe we should just overturn USERRA for ALL jobs, not just the airlines, or do you have some axe to grind here?

Reason most mil dudes mil drop so much the first year is because they are taking a major paycut to go to that airline job. They make more in the guard/reserve generally. You would do the same thing.

The interesting thing I've noticed over the years is that most straight civilian dudes who cry about somebody else using ML leave is/has either : 1) no self-esteem as a pilot or 2) is as selfish as a scab or 3) was a younger sibling and never learned that not everybody's ice cream cone is going to always look the same or 4) is a complete uninformed idiot.

Which one are you?

You really don't know what you are talking about-

I would agree. And I also think it's funny that the folks who started the so called "whinning" in the first place are the p*ssies complaining about how "they heard" some guy in the military may be abusing mil leave when they themselves have never served a day in their life.

The airline loses availability due to the reservist often having "duty" on weekends, holidays and super bowl Sunday. Why take a guy that is not going to fly his seniority? If you need two for every one mil pilots you hire because they are not available, it doesn't make good business sense. When a company has to contribute to a b-fund each month for a pilot that doesn't turn a wheel that is an extra cost.

It isn't discrimination, it is smart business to hire someone that is actually going to be present and able to work for you. Being a MIL pilot isn't a race or a religion. This is not a discrimination issue. It is a business issue. With the level of qualifications coming from the regionals it will make a side by side resume comparison simple. One is going to cost the airline xx more to employ. The company chooses the best candidate that meets the standards and can be reliable to show up for a trip assignment.

The cries of "discrimination" are downright funny. All the airlines want is a pilot that is going to work for THEM. USERRA is a social handout for mil. The same type of handout you probably rail against when given to someone other than yourself. If there was a law to protect ditch diggers you would be aghast and up in arms at YOUR money going to such a program.

I have a list of MIL stereotypes. You want to pick one for yourself?

I have seen the abuse first hand. From what you wrote it seems you are endorsing abuse of the system if you served?

Sorry Col. Jessup but we really don't need you on that wall.
