Quote: The money isn't the issue

Yes it is.

The airline was created specifically to bust a pilot union... and in many parts of our industry that is not looked upon well. In other areas it won't stop a career. The question is this... with other airlines hiring, why would you intentionally o to work for a union busting company knowing full well in advance that it WILL close some future doors for you.

The airline was not created to bust a union, the seniority list was. Even then TSA pilots created that separate list, at least allowed it to happen when they knew their contract was not worth the paper it was printed on. This is nothing like Freedom, because freedom was illegal. The pilots at Gojet are not replacing TSA because TSA pilots never had the job to begin with. Again ALPA is sending their furloughed to this alter ego, how can that be?

We are all we have, and each of us - from B1900 drivers to B777 systems managers - need to look out for eachother since nobody else will.

I'm all for that. However, short of being a scab, if you think that a pilot won't take his or her interests before anyone else when it comes to his livelihood then you are living in a different planet.

If it comes down to putting food on your table any job with benefits will do nobody will fault you for taking whatever you can get. Just keep in mind that for what places like GoJet pay you could make the same money at Home Depot and be home everyday.

What are you talking about? How can you get a job at a major with customer service experience at Home Deopt?

However, with other places hiring again, and the newspapers full of other minimum wage jobs - and the occasional good job - there is NO reason at all to go to a place like GoJets.

Easy for you to say when you have not walked in the others shoes. It's so much easier to preach.
Again, as unfortunate as the separate list was, due to what happened back then, that has nothing to do with the current and future pilots. Gojet was created due to s serious blunder and therefore will continue to be there for a long time.

Iz,

Like the guy above said, Go for it. You've worked hard to improve your life. Dispatching at GJ would be way better than coming home smelling like jet fuel every night. You can complete your degree online, learn a lot about aircraft dispatching, make more money, and have some fun.

There is absoulutly no need for you to be concerned that YOU are part of a management-pilot dispute in 2004.

If you stay with dispatching the Big Guys could care less if you previously worked for GoJet, JetGo, or CitGo.

The doomsayers on this site will always be Doom and Gloom.

Good Luck and have some fun.

When do you start?

one year ago the net loss of airline jobs stood at 385,000 since 9/11. If the fact that the airline industry is IN decline is news to you and that you are pinning your future on something less than a rising star then God help you. Before you bet your youth and years here you would be wise to consider somthing with a brighter future. Consolidation and downsizing has not yet reached a fever pitch and the depths that people will sink to to keep a job in aviation have not yet been plumbed.

Quote: I see your point but what it comes down to is I dont have enough hours to fly for a living but I have my dispatchers and I can no longer support myself working at my airport. If I dispatched for them I would be making over 50% more $$$. I have been looking for second jobs here and there and there is nothing available. I am certainly not looking to dispatch for a career, I spent way to much money between a degree and flying to do it forever, I am looking for a short time solution till I finish my MBA and can move on. I mean would the majors or Boeing look down upon me because I had to dispatch for awhile while in school? I turned down one previous ADX job with republic because I hated the management enviroment I went through while interviewing and the dispatch guys at GJ seemed pretty cool.
I don't see anything wrong at all with working there as a dispatcher, no pilot would ever hold that against you unless you somehow got personally involved in union-busting activities... in which case you would be on the management career track, not the pilot track anyway. The angst is with the GJ pilots (especially the early ones).

Id relocate but the cost of living there is way cheaper and Im finishing school online.

Also Im just trying to figure out if I would really be denied a jump seat if I tried hopping on another regional. I mean really? Its just dispatching.... Im not a pilot, I would just make almost twice as much as them lol

Keep in mind if you are talking about JSing in/out of ORD you will come up against full airplanes everywhere, and cockpit jumpseats taken by pilots going to/from work... it's possible but plan on missing lots and lots of flights.
