Schwinn changed hands in about 2000. I bought a new Schwinn road bike in 1999 and with updates it is still going fine. It is a quality bike. Then the company was mismanaged in about 2000, someone bought them out and "they" whomever that is, have made junk ever since. They are all about milking the Schwinn name for all its worth. That happens with a lot of good companies- they build up a legend then hit a rough spot and it turns into a low quality sellout. It is a standard technique for making money in manufacturing, and it is not considered unethical.

My parents had some friends with one of these Mercurys. They had a 1975 Colony Park and it really was a nice car- very powerful, quiet, and smooth. Ford was good at making large cars at the time and they really were nice. Good as a new Rolls no, unless you think vinyl seats and cheap fittings are good. But for $5k you could ride pretty well in those days.

You'd need a Coast Guard license to drive that today. I recall an SNL skit with a Rabbi in the back seat....

Sure it is.... That DC-9 is flying for Delta today and it will be the ride home for the pilots when they drop off the last 320 in the desert!

Very true..if the public only knew they would not value our opinion on such matters.

I prefer tiny bottles of free hotel shampoo over the $75 dollar special the salons try to sell my wife.

Now that's a blast from the past! I actually know the guy on the left in that photo. Flew with him before he got hired at Continental and after he got furloughed. He told me the real story behind the commercial.

That photo was taken at sunrise in front of the main hangar at Stapleton. He said not even a bird was chirping when the director started running around with a bull horn yelling "QUIET...QUIET ON THE SET!!!!"

Later, they were filming the pilots driving the the Mercury Marquis on some roads in the mountains and one of the Captains drove it into a ditch and lost a whole day of shooting.

IIRC, in the film version there was a brand spanking new DC-10 in the background.
