So did Everts resume giving raises? Are you guys working Sundays still? They going hire hire for the bro/C-46?

Any word on Everts? Was corresponding with Jeremy Erickson who was (is chief pilot) about two years ago as I am ex C-46 and DC-6. Was interested but would have been a huge pay cut. Right now am interested in doing it mainly for the fun of it.

The pay freeze ended a few months ago. Flying on Sundays? I have only seen a crew on standby one time in almost two and a half years. I guess you could be scheduled to fly on a Sunday if they had a D.O.D. flight or a special charter.

Jeremy Erickson is still the Chief Pilot. The DC-9 starts flying this month and I know they will be hiring in to all 4 aircraft (DC-9, DC-6, CW-46, EMB-120). You should drop by or give him a call.

I've been seeing bright and shiny DC-9s in Anchorage. Good for you guys, hope it makes lots of money for everyone over there!

Quote: I dropped off a resume early this week, but unfortunately Mr. Erickson was out of the office at the time. I tried calling yesterday, but ended up with the HR chief who told me "don't call us, we'll call you"

Gotta have thick skin, as always ...
I had a nice chat with Jeremy is his office yesterday. Said the DC-9s are all growth airframes and the DC-6s are good for another 10-15 years. The majority of the -6 Capts are staying on the -6. On the latest bid a 6 FE with 6 months with the company bid the 9 and got it. He showed he the FE schedule, lines all had Sundays off and one week per bid period off. Looks like two lines spend two weeks TDY at Deadhorse. He says the company hasn't laid anyone off in 15 years and he has no idea when the next class is. Interviews are in front of a three person panel. I would imagine if you wore a suit you'd get laughed out of the building.

Can you imagine still flying DC-6s in 2026?

Don't laugh. The DC-9's might be of a vintage just 10-12 years newer than the DC-6's. If they hold onto the 9's as long as the 6's then the same might be said in 2026. Besides, some of the places the 6's go into would be real interesting (or impossible) with a 9 - for one, I've never seen a gravel kit on a 9.

Oh I wasn't laughing, just pointing out the irony of operating what could be 70 year old airframes in commercial service out of an airport that will no doubt see a lot of 747-8 freighters. Kinda fun to think about it.

As for the -9s, yeah, I doubt I'd ever see one in Port Alsworth, that's for sure. As I've mentioned to a few friends of mine, their just trading up from 60 year old piston pounders to 40 year old jets.

I wonder what they'd have to move to when (and if!) the -6s get put out to pasture.

Hmmm Having flown Everts DC9's. Why couldn't they fly out of gravel? The engines are mounted pretty high.
