Hi everyone,
I will be flying with someone doing a maintenance stall check on a 800XP. The guy I'm flying with is experienced in doing these maintenance checks and I was curious and like to prepare for this before I meet him. Has anyone ever done a stall check in a HS 125 and like to share with me what I should expect? I appreciate your feedback and any help. Thanks

Hey Hoof:
Done it before, really a non-event. Just follow the recommended criteria for conducting stalls. I.E. 10,000 ft AGL, not to exceed 15,000 MSL? There is a graph in the AFM that will give you the shaker activation speeds for given weights. Best to chart those numbers for all the flap settings. At flaps 45 the A/C really doesn't want to get slow enough for shaker, but kinda "mushes" along.
When I did it, I was checking for the correct shaker speeds, and also flight characteristics. You didn't what the aircraft to stall before shaker, or break to one side.

P.S. Now that I think about it. We did it to the actual stall. The graph should give you both shaker activation speeds, and stall speeds or weight.

Quite a long thread on this a while back.

Might want to remove the glasses from the galley before doing the stall checks....don't ask

Stall characteristics can very greatly from airplane to airplane as the airframes get old, repaired, modified.
You shouldn't be able to reach much of a stall, as the stick pusher is designed to prevent this.

HS 125 Stall Checks
Having done many series of stall checks on Hawkers (we fly an 800XP), I have found that the plane is pretty straightforward in its stall characteristics. There is quite a fear factor out there regarding Hawker stalls, and it is pretty much unfounded. The crash that did happen involved many more mistakes that led up to the incident. If you fly the plane within it's parameters, there is nothing big about doing them. After all, we're not sleeping up there, are we?

We have done a couple of them with no events but one the yoke snapped out of pilots hands and we rolled over. Also we do a lot of work with Duncan Aviation and they will not send any personal on stall test any more because of a couple close calls. All i can say is don't take these tests lightly.

Just curious....

what maintenance checks need to be done with the aircraft in full stall on a Hawker?

Any plane I have flown with a stick shaker/pusher or any other stall warning devices, you test them on the ground.

Any time a leading edge is removed or replacement TKS panels installed.
