"Sorry to see this guy's mistake plastered all over the press/internet."

Why would it not be? This is a friggin AIRLINE CAPTAIN showing up for work, DRUNK!

I'm not judging this man by any means and I pray that he will be successful in saving his career and getting any help that he needs but lets face it. Our mistakes are considered newsworthy, the responsibility that our profession carries is enormous and the public knows it. In spite of this they also think we are overpaid and we do not for that very reason.

As they say, with responsibility comes accountability.

it doesn't lower the class of the pilot but it does of the poster. No reason to always have to be the first to air dirty laundry.

So you're not judging him, but you're certain, based on what you saw on the interweb, that he showed up for work drunk. I mean DRUNK! K, got it.

You know, ...if some body shows up for work and blows a point "anything",...there's a problem. Doesn't matter how much it is.

You feel this way now, you might be singing a different tune the day you show up at the airport after using mouthwash and the TSA agent suspects you have alcohol on your breath. After failing the breathalyzer test you are hauled away in cuffs.

This is absolutely correct guys. Assuming the machine didn't give a false reading, this is not an alleged incident. Bankruptcy took away the pay to which our skills entitled us, but it didn't take away the awesome responsibility for all those lives we carry.

HIMS and other programs have been out there for decades now. We are long past the excuse stage for our brothers with this "problem". Too much capital and energy has been spent on these programs to go unutilized. In today's world, when these programs are ignored by the "problem child", my sympathy gauge is at zero and my p!ssed off gauge is pegged.

That's what a follow-up blood test is for jayray. Mouthwash doesn't affect that.

Assuming this number is correct, there is no damn excuse for this anymore. NONE!

You know - it is OK to feel for the guy and hope that he gets the help that is required - - and at the same time not try to give the indication that this type of behavior is OK.
It is not ok. It is not a secret that this is not ok.

The professionals ought to be hard against their own who do such things - self-policing - hold ourselves (professional - not airline here) to high standards and demand that level from others.
