Quote: UAL labor is cheaper.
Not according to the latest numbers. The W2+benefits [corrected] are nearly the same, but the hours worked to get that are about 10% less for the UAL pilots.

CAL--$187K
UAL--$184K

CAL--612hrs/yr
UAL--540hrs/yr

Quote: I don't know how they came up with those numbers but the low man on the UAL list is at what longevity level, 12 ish? I have to imagine that half the CAL list is less then that. If the CAL side was all at the 12ish year longevity level I have a feeling that CAL wage number would be higher.

You are probably right about the CAL longevity scale being in the lower range. But I think these numbers factor in the Captains that pick up the OT in the right seat. That brings the compensation #s closer together

APC,

Remember this little tid-bit from the TPA......they could be gaining all kinds of synergies never imagined by the authors of the TPA IMO.

13-A. Partial Termination. Unless the Parties agree otherwise, the Airline Parties (that doesn't include ALPA)
may jointly terminate the provisions of Sections 4-D (Domiciles), 7-A (Furlough
with regard to United Pilots only), 7-C (Flying Ratios), 7-D (Domicile and Base
Protection), and 9 (ALPA Travel), individually or collectively, at any time on or
after December 31, 2011, if the parties have not reached a tentative agreement on a
JCBA by that date.

How much decimation could be done on the UAL side by that provision?

Lee

Boy, could be a lot.

CAL gains 737's...UAL loses A320's..or those rumored 757's? Over a period of time, if that contract/SLI is still not settled, I could foresee domestic CAL feeding Int'l UAL. That CAL contract has all that wonderful flexibility in it..doesn't it? New bases in.... now where does/did UAL have A320/737 bases?
Seriously, why would UCAL pay for 200 training events in 2011 if they should start replacing the retirees in mid-late 2012? ...unless?

Quote: The reality is that CAL is getting a lot of planes delivered next year, 12 737s. Cross your fingers and there will be some 787s thrown in as well. This is why there is the need. These planes were on order prior to the merger. The sad thing is that some of our 777 orders were converted to 737s.
The reality could also be they're putting planes on the property where they're cheaper to fly. CAL is hiring, UAL is not. Which labor is cheaper? Follow the money.
Why would they add the 737s to the UAL side? UAL doesn't have that fleet type.

They're not going to add 737's to UAL...CAL will just use theirs to do the UAL flying.

Yeah, but......if the company decided to terminate these sections, our MEC leader said,............wait for it......wait......(in wonderful ALPA lawyer speak), "THAT WOULD REQUIRE A CONVERSATION WITH THE COMPANY."

That was repeated at least 3 times in her video 'town hall' meeting. It started to become clear how forked we are after hearing that exact phrase 3 different times.

This has got to go!

Or maybe we can train all the FOs as a Captain and let them pick up OT in the Left Seat!

That is what I am saying. CAL had the order before all this merger and some are frustrated that they are not being delivered to UAL side. Doesn't make sense to even argue the point as some did in earlier posts.
