Quote: 80dvr, thanks for your message. My friend got picked up by AA in 2001, not sure how, but he flew 777 with TT1800hrs as F/A-18 pilot. I'm trying to position myself as a competitive candidate for future hire as ATP with perhaps TT2500 hrs by the end of this year.
Read this dudes posts carefully. Either English isn't this cats first language, or he yanking all of you.

Magicman (lame), listen to these guys. They're telling you your "buddy" is a fibber!

Quote: Your friend isn't at AA if he was hired in 2001, after 9/11 he was furlough and has yet to be recalled, so if he is flying the 777 it is not on AA colors. AA doesn't take the majority of pilots from AE, it's actually the opposite they prefer not to, we have a flow trough agreement that as it stands we will send 824 pilots to AA on the first 1,648 pilots that AA hires, this is after all furlough pilots (including your "friend") have been recalled and the another 240 Eagle pilots who are on the seniority list at AA are given the opportunity to flow. Your friend might have been awarded the 777 when hired in 2001. I am not sure if your question is if you can get the 777 because of your TT, when you are in pilot training for AMR seniority is assigned based on age on the first day of class and then equipments are picked from the list of available slots. It doesn't matter if you flew the shuttle, if you are the youngest pilot (most junior in class) you will get the airplane that is left over after the rest of the pilots pick!
Thanks for the explanation. I really had no idea on the seniority process at AA. I'm not sure if Smooth still flying with AA, lost touch a few years back.

I know a guy, Curt Brown, who flew 6 shuttle missions, he's got the video with himself, John Glenn and Jay Leno on his laptop. Retired in 2000 and got hired by AA. (I would have loved to have seen that interview - "Well Mr. Brown, what can you bring to AA with your, ah, 1200 hours of Space Shuttle time?) He ended up on the panel for a year before the axe fell.

Local news in Ft. Worth is saying AA is going to cut employees by 20 percent, I don't think you have to worry about AA hiring anytime soon.

Quote: Hey guys, I'm just curious. Do you think AA will still have to hire pilots off the street in 2012 considering the bankruptcy or is it too early to predict? Thanks!

The answer is....NO

Good luck, AAers. Hope you all land on your feet.
