ok guys, sorry if i am a "day late" to this, but i just downloaded "logbook pro" and installed and purchased it.

this is really an awesome piece of software. i have spent the last 6 hours putting in most of my data and when i started generating the reports, they look fantastic.

be advised though, they have 3 versions. one for 69, then 99, then 149. if you get this, just get the $69.00 version. there is no reason to spend the extra money, in my opinion.

the reports look really professional and i think they will look great when bound for an interview and they look a million times better than my chicken scratch logbooks done by hand.

I did pay more than the cheapest one, because I wanted to be able to install it onto my laptop and desktop both. The two synch. with one another, so I always have two independent, up-to-date digital copies of my log (plus the data that's still on my Palm).

It is a great product, since I could never seem to keep up with my log the pen-and-paper way.

I seem to have <cough> misplaced my FARs. I genuinely can't remember, but I thought it said that a bound logbook needs to be kept. Is that the case? That's the reason I haven't gotten a digital logbook. I always figured, why put the numbers in twice? Then someone told me we can hand the Feds a pile of cocktail napkins, as long as they have the required info. Anyone know for sure?

At logbook pro you can buy a binder and paper to print your log's out on. They look pretty nice to. Expensive though. You can download your flight times directly into your logbook from your co. website.
Surprised they dont charge us for this.

Just like the feds, "you may log it anyway you want as long as we approve.... and we won't tell you if we approve until we violate you"

Actually one could keep a stack of napkins with the required information; however, a pilot who walks in with an unorginized pile of junk will not make a good impression.

I have had no problem with the electonic logbooks. I do still keep a limited pen and ink logbook for training and endorsements (I am adding on glider ratings).

oh, I should add, our POI liked the electronic logs and reports when he saw them.

I have the ForPilots Logbook, which I like, plus it is free, well sort of, as long as you can deal with a 15 second delay before being able to use it each time you open it, it is free. You can always register it and get rid of that and get some other cool stuff too.

It does graphs and all, I like it. Anyone else use it??

I use an electronic book for my airline stuff.

I still keep paper books for GA and endorsements and stuff. I just do a monthly airline entry in the paper book including my total 121 time for that month.

i am just planning on keeping my endorsements and i have transfered all of my entries to LogBook Pro.

i like this program and i think it presents a more professional image than my chicken scratch back to highschool..

has anyone done an interview yet with this type of logbook?

My bro (Mesa CA) and I (Air Force) use CaptainsLog and its been great. Its one of the more inexpensive options out there, and you can customize the print layouts anyway you like, and log as little or as much as you want as far as breakdowns of times go. You can put in all your endorsments, names of crews, anything at all. It has an Auto-Night calcuation and stores your tail numbers and airfields which im sure all the others do. I printed out my CaptainsLog logbook and used that at my Eagle and SKW interviews and they were cool with it... but they still wanted to see the original logbooks from way back when with all the signatures in them even though i transcribed all that time into my electronic log.

Electronic is the way to go! By the way if you have a PDA you can build your own excel file, and log your times on the go, and then sync your PDA to your computer then import the Excel file into CaptainsLog. perfect for those multi-leg trips!
