I know the weather can be VERY unpredictable but can anyone with experience tell me what its like flight training during the month of January in Georgia, PDK Area? Can I expect snow? I've heard of the potential frost.

I'm hoping to complete my PPL in 2 months, FAA Written and Medical Completed already.

Winter in Georgia is actually pretty nice flying weather most of the time. You have some frosty mornings, a lot of mornings below freezing, and some low cloud days. Overall its not horrible and a small chance of snow.

Two months should be plenty of time to get the private. With that said I would suggest you know the airport diagram at PDK with your eyes closed! Learning to fly at PDK will be a challenge but not impossible. PDK has really high volume general aviation traffic and you will master the radio soon if you want to fly out of there. I have flown there some and remember being on downwind number 7 or 8 to land more than one time.

Just curious but why PDK? You will easily spend close to a couple thousand extra dollars there than flying out of other airports in the area.

I was trying to avoid PDK but it's looking like my only option right now. Training is with Falcon Aviation Academy and they fly out of 4 different locations, PDK, CCO, FFC and AHN. I'm going to be staying in Fairburn, GA (By Family) and MARTA only provides transportation to PDK.

I can drive but I'm not sure If I'm gonna have a car accessible at all times either.

I have until December to figure this out, SIGH

N.B I hope 2 months would be enough, I have already done my FAA Written and have my Third Class Medical and SPL.I also have prior flight training...The basics, Level Flight, Turns, Pattern Entry, Stalls, A few landings etc 10.2 hrs total

While transportation is an issue I went to falcon at FFC and CCO less congested with traffic and better facilities at CCO. Straight down i85 but while flight time is expensive it also hurts paying for flight time sitting on the ground to take off at PDK. If you had a way around that very good instructors down there.

Thanks for the Information! Good to know, I most likely will head over to CCO as that seems like the better option. I should have enough time to get transportation sorted out between now and January.

I'm sooo excited about flight school, I just wish January would get here already!

I've recently looked into Falcon at PDK and it looks like their bailing out of that location. The reason given was they had a large number of foreign students coming to the Newnan location and the PDK wasn't doing much action.

Honestly with fuel prices and traffic volume the way they are at PDK I don't see how any of them make it. Taxi time from the Clairmont ramp to the hold short line takes over 10 mins. if you go non-stop at a brisk pace.

I have arrived in Georgia and I'm ready for flight school, hopefully I can start flying tomorrow or Friday. Wish me the best!

I am currently flying out of LZU, but run through PDK often as well as other northern GA airports. PDK is nice, but is extremely busy. Have fun.
