I'm sorry, I forgot to put a pukey smiley face. No congratulations desired. More sowing of discontent is all this will bring.

I think it was pretty obvious that this was the next place it was going to be. Good news for the west coast, especially if they are growth positions and not just replacing 747 or 777 flying and then bumping those pilots out.

Just a small correction; those of us living in the SF Bay area and/or based in San Francisco, refer to San Francisco as "San Francisco". I'm from Los Angeles area originally and used to say "frisco" myself but when you use that word in these parts, most will consider it an improper use of the noun San Francisco. It's like saying "irregardless" which is the improper use of the word "regardless" Who'da thunk it :-0

Oh, and thanks for the information about "Sparky" coming to "frisco"; wherever that is

I dont see the reason for this. Those pilots have to come from somewhere and they will leave open positions for other pilots to bid. The fence drops in about a year and a half and we have another 40 sparkys to be delivered after that.

The reason so many guys have taken guppy Captain positions is because those guys went to fly sparky, so this isn't a bad thing. Its just the natural progression of getting a new airplane.

No discontent should be displayed. This is your plane due to the sli award. I don't envy you for many of the special pilots you have to share the cockpit with but nonetheless, it is great opportunity.

I hear ya Pilot64, but it's just the demographic that will be migrating into the left seat for the time being that will cause grief; having the acft itself there can be a huge boon, if Jefe doesn't try to send it to Fresno or something.

Kru, that's exactly the response I was told saying 'Frisco would elicit (one of the guys at yesterday's LA LEC mtg told me that.) Funny stuff, akin to getting antsy about Guppy.

Stock up on SCAB gaskets

The short term disruption will be a long term no BFD. Fast forward 24-36 months down the road when the 747 is put to pasture, the incumbent 787 pilots will slot into the list just like l-CAL 737 CA are now. With the addition of the WB Scarebus, it just means more options for all.

The first 747-400 doesn't get parked until 2022. Almost all of them are less than 20 years old. These aren't the ones we bought in the 70s. Some of these were delivered post 9/11. They myth that they were 30 year old airplanes ready to be parked was debunked a long time ago.

Funny we were told in 2010 that they were to be imminently parked, and it still hasn't happened. Just like the Airbus fleet was going to be parked and UAL just spent $500M to extend the life to 2024.
