Hey guys, I know everyone hates GoJets (I don't know the whole story, but don't plan on getting involved with them) but want to know if the industry looks down or hates Great Lakes Airlines.

Thanks for the insight!

They are scope-limited to small turboprops, which are the traditional purvue of the regional/commuter airlines. I don't see how anyone can hold that against them...maybe someone on flightinfo can figure out a reason to be annoyed with them

Well, I hope not! I don't get the feeling that anyone looks down on Lakes, but I do think that a lot of folks think we (the "Lakers") are kinda out of our mind for differing reasons...

Well the name Great Mistakes is kinda catchy

The only bad attitudes or negative stuff i heard about Lakes comes from former Lakes guys themselves, but never anyone else.

People don't like because of PEANUT SALARY. However, as far as flying ability, these guys are top notch. DEN controllers can make the MISTAKE and then ask Lakes to adjust speed, altitude, etc. . . to help fix spacing. These guys fly that 1900D like a Bat out of Hell. Great pilot skills, into some of the craziest airports around, with NO autopilot. (Same with the Big Sky guys) All good sticks. All can shoot NDB's with pinpoint accuracy on RAW DATA hand flying. No complaints from me!

no A/P and also no Map Mode. holy crap! how do you fly a plane these days without Map Mode? I even heard some of their planes had no RNAV at all, yikes! definitly old school kick @ss pilots, not that alot of us out there arent but they get my respect.

Thanks guys! Another question...what exactly is that 15 month training contract for $7,500? Is that something you have to pay before you get hired, or is that some kind of deal that if you quit within 15 months you have to pay?

On a side note, the 1900 is awesome. Like the people before said some real hard core flying. Though not sure how new england flying rates against out west but, its all great.

Not sure what Great Lakes contract is but I know Big Skys 1 yr/$10,000 contract is... if you work there for 6 months and quit then you owe the company $5,000. There is no price to pay unless you quit during the contractual period.
