CDC can't declare no fly zones, FAA can't intervene. ALPA wants the CDC and FAA to work closer together.

Look how ineffective our government is. The reason they want to control the public opinion is because if we all knew how incapable they are to do anything, we would loose all faith in them for everything they do.

It's a bad day when it's up to ALPA to protect the country from deadly diseases.

BUT HEY LOOK ITS OK, we have Obamacare for us if we get Ebola, right? right?

When government's basic scope of responsibility gets expanded beyond "protect a nation's sovereignty and safety" it tends to get worse at everything. Jack of all trades and master at none.....

Some more comment from the medical community on Ebola:

Dr. S E| Preventive Medicine

Before Ebola ever made it to the U.S., we saw that Brantley, Sacra and Writebol were all infected despite head to toe protection and hazmat suits while in West Africa. Perhaps this virus is more easily transmitted than the CDC tells us. So instead of erring on the side of caution, two nurses had to get sick in Dallas.

Yet the CDC and various Federal government agency spokes personnel continue to proclaim that this virus is "difficult to transmit"," not airborne", etc etc .

The President keeps repeatedly trying to reassure the public that "you can't catch it on a plane", (yet a mandatory No-fly-list was implemented for the Dallas HealthCare workers who cared for Duncan...?)

The constant back peddling, reactionary after-the-fact protocols, and contradictory statements that keep coming from CDC and our government are what fuel Ebola hysteria.

d s| Registered Nurse (RN)

Ebola may not be airborne when you are sitting next to a person on a plane if they are not coughing, sneezing or otherwise spewing fluids. However, anyone who has worked with an infectious patient in an ICU knows that droplets can and will be disseminated through the air. This can happen while suctioning or if ventilator tubing becomes disconnected. It can happen if patients cough and copious secretions become airborne. Airborne droplets can occur with projectile vomiting etc, and with other body fluids- I don't think I need to go on. You get the picture.

As an ER and ICU nurse who has worked with infectious patients for 25 years, I can tell you that fluids will be disseminated in every possible way you can ever imagine!

Dr. Robert Durr| Pulmonary Medicine

Perhaps more worrisome and certainly more dangerous than 'fear and ignorance' is blindness, hubris, and ignorance.

The regurgitation of the CDC mantra that Ebola is not "airborne" ignores the presence of the virus in saliva and blood, and the ability of those fluids to become aerosolized and thus capable of 'proximity' transmission, though not truly "airborne" in the scientific meaning of the word.

Reliance on recommendations from a politicized and bureaucratic organization such as the CDC rather than using utmost caution and common sense is equally as dangerous, as demonstrated by the rapidly shifting recommendations and positions emanating from that organization.

Regarding: Malaria and Typhoid Fever "
30 yrs before I was a legal immigrant, I was asked to provide certifications for inoculations for Typhoid, Cholera, Small Pox , Lung Xray to rule out TB, Wasserman Khan Test to rule out Syphilis, heart examination as required by INS regulations which had to be approved by an MD/Specialist from the US consulate to be eligible to receive a VISA in the country of departure and carried in person to be admitted to US.

Have people acquired natural immunity to all these diseases since then?

Is Ebola a garden variety fever and a lesser risk to the flight crew, airport security, travelling public and communities than the diseases mentioned above?

Ebola has been in the Radar for more than a decade. Still, the federal govt is thumbing its nose at the American Citizens for political correctness.

One lying Liberian national with active Ebola easily escaped detection and has already cost unknown $ to the taxpayer when legitimate citizens are dying for lack of standard medical care.

If you happen to be the one to get infected from the one who brought Ebola from West Africa, statistics do not matter. You are a victim 100%.

Stop blaming Doctors, Nurses, Heath care Givers and Protocols etc. Let the bleeding hearts, PC pseudo specialists, and talking heads bury their heads in sand.

Dr. Georgios Kouvelas| Infectious Diseases

"Not airborne" and "3 foot radius" is a totally irresponsible consultation for a disease 50-80% death rate and Ro~2,5.

Unfortunately, also it's a RNA virus...they have fun in mutating and finding other virus co-partners.

As wisely said; “the world community reacted and not proacted”. Now we will lose valuable time in deaths and money worldwide and keep our fingers crossed that a vaccine will come in soon before a new strain of EBOV arises.

It actually ends with 35 million illegal aliens swarming across the border spreading the enterovirus. 400 cases total in the first 35 years, 700 cases this year. But hey they are good for votes and cheap lawn care.

If it wasn't for the current illegals, pro-immigration reps would never get elected.

Not into metaphores are you. Instead of European style socialism we will get Mexican style socialism. You should be alright as long as you put enough aside to bribe the cops.

So that's what the horde is that I see building along the border when I fly over.

And I just thought it was desert shrubs, not virus victims flocking by the millions to Mexico. How silly of me.
