Quote: IT's such a small number of pilots being displaced I just don't know how it makes sense. I get it if a base is closing. but otherwise they should just attrit due to normal retirement attrition and upgrade movement. 60 displacements won't matter in a year. I bet IAH gets those displaced pilots back in a year to a year and a half anyways. How much does it cost the company to displace them to other bases or other airplanes only to have them come back if they so choose in a year or so?

No mak-e sense to me
Everything you said is exactly correct. It makes no sense. Which is why it was completely predictable that management would do it. Its not a surprise at all.

Especially when there is another vacancy bid coming and guys are going to bid out of those bases anyway. The only reason this makes sense is if they are overstaffed by 100 and so they take 20 guys out, knowing that its going to take a year to get the base staffed correctly.

This just primes the pump. Other than that, it seems like a waste of time and unneeded disruption.

IAH won't get those pilots back in a year and a half. It may get pilots but it won't be those pilots. That is the answer to why this is happening. BTW they have been senior manning the last few weeks in IAH I am told.

Going by the snapshot, plenty of guys heading to 737 Captain Denver. If you've been wondering why Denver hasn't been getting vacancies....now you know. Who needs vacancies? Look out below!

That is pretty dark. Manpower planning has warned us that some bases are overstaffed based on FUTURE staffing needs. Sr manning today does not tell the whole story. The reason the displacement numbers are small is because they're scared of f'n up the summer. They will step it up in September if vacancies and attrition don't get er done.

For those relatively new here, don't be surprised by any of this. It will be a surprise if they ever get staffing correct.

I am still waiting. 19 years on.

I can't tell you how many times I have seen UAL open a fleet/base, only to close it less than a year later. And vice versa.

That's true….it will go way too senior for the current bumped folks to get back.

After summer 2105 I think you will see some big and small adjustments for most bases. It will frustrate some and make others happy in the system but I think it will be the new norm and then we can all adjust life plans with less trepidation.

TOO FUNNY! "there will be no bumps!"

That, and of course ****canning the crappy old airbusses and those ancient 15 year old 400s...."those ratty old money losing, fuel guzzling 400s!!" ("they're gonna kill that poor woman!").
Who cares about fuel costs these days. $48 a barrel.

Do you reckon it's going to stay at $48 a barrel?
