Just a quick question for the fedex guys. Are you guys Cat IIIc capable on your entire fleet? Wondering what happens when an airport gets fogged in.

CAT IIIc is a precision approach with no decision height and no RVR requirements. I don't think any airline has been approved for that but I could be very wrong. However, all of the models flown by FedEx including the former 727 can autoland.

Oh okay. Thanks. So I guess fog is not really an issue.

Airbus is authorized to Cat III, 600/600/600. Everything else is 300/300/300.

Lots of destinations don't have anything close to that level of approach capabilities. Either way, totally down or just Cat-II wx at a Cat-I only airport, we divert and either wait for the weather to clear or send a bunch of trucks to the alternate.

I landed (technically the autopilot "auto-landed") the MD-11 several times in VERY LOW visibility. Sometimes, the taxi to the ramp is the fog is as bid a deal as landing

No doubt. Back in my pax days, I did a cat-III into EWR. I spent the entire taxi to the ramp trying to figure out where we were. Good thing I wasn't driving. My biggest lesson learned was pre-briefing the expected taxi plan (or at least thinking about it for a bit) and preparing for the after landing environment.

If you're an Airbus guy, double check the FOM. If you aren't, it doesn't really matter, but all aircraft are 300 RO.

Not AB, but I do see that now, thanks.

That's common even when it's CAVOK.
