I do wonder what percentage of pilots would want (or be physically/mentally able) to work that long? I bet it would be well under 10%.

In any case, I'm sure the ALPA PAC is already lobbying hard for this.

I would like to point out that retired pilots are not usually the ones dying in their 90's especially if they spent significant time doing long haul. Most of the retired pilots I know look 10 years older than their real age and lots of cancer stories.

Of course no one will be physically/mentally able to work that long. It's just like age 65. No one has decided to stay past 60 after the age was changed to 65. Oh wait a minute.........?

If this ever becomes something we can't stop, we need to make sure over 65 pilots who choose to keep flying (at least) go back to the right seat.

Interesting you mention this. Just got my medical recently and my ame specifically stated he's seeing more cancer cases in guys trying to make it to 65. Apparently going up to 60 not as much, but that last 5 years the degradation of the body is more obvious. Not all will have this, but it's a trend and statistically more are having that problem. Prostate problems was another area he stated were also much higher over 60, but cancer is the main one he mentioned.

You can thank the locked door for that one. I drink a ton of water on flights to stay hydrated, to the annoyance of all the FA's. Oh well I'm not having prostate problems.

Mentally is the big thing. Some under 60's guys i fly with i worry about.

Living longer...and unhealthier. There is a price to pay to live longer.

See that light on the horizon, that's age 67. It's coming just as sure as the next sunrise. Just a matter of time. We can argue about health and mental abilities until the cows come home. Can't stop it. Why...politics. Social Securuty changes and health care costs will be the primary cause.
BTW, I'm currently flying with a Capt that's 64.4. Sharp as a tac! That will be me at 67.
