Quote: Hey, just wanted to add that while I am building time, it is a concern to ensure quality instruction. It is just not something I could do long term and that's why I'll get done as soon as I can. You have to really love instructing a lot to do it long term.
I'm not saying you can't be a good instructor if you are in it mostly for building time. I don't blame people for not wanting to do it for a career either. I just think that there are many people out there that just go through the motions, and by doing so are doing flight instruction an injustice.

I definately agree with you. I have seen that first hand and it's not fair for students to not get quality instruction.

Quote: being a military, and owning two airplanes and flying since highschool helps get to the 3000 hour mark....

thanks for the words on the CFI.....i would not want to ad myself to the pool and take away a job from someone that either needed to build time or needed the job...

thanks for all of your help guys....wow 8 replies in under 30 min...gotta love that!!
I would say that if want to be a career pilot (and have the time and money), go ahead and get it...it will be a good refresher on regs and theory. It is not critical, but is a good resume addition.

However if you do decide to enter the active instructor pool be conscientious about the job you do. Also, as a 3000 hour guy you would have instructing opportunities that low-time cfi's do not, due to credibility and/or insurance.
