That. For people that keep dogging this place on first year pay. For reasons mentioned in this last post, based on the number of job openings, there is NO shortage of applications. People are making it work just fine.

I don't think Hawaiian will ever have a shortage of pilots. With a pilot group size in the 800s and not too much attrition, they don't need to fill that many openings. Unlike the big 3 which need 1000+ a year. There will always be Hawaii people wanting to come back home and fly.

Exactly.... each of the legacies hire a "Hawaiian Airlines" each year just to cover retirements for that year, and maybe a few more for growth/attrition.... Hawaiian remains the best job possible in Part 121 aviation for a pilot who really wants to live in Hawaii.

Prep? I’d say the majority of the interview is projecting your desire to live in Hawaii and/or your connection to the islands. A thorough explanation on why you are willing to work for such cr@p first year pay may also be required if you don’t have family here.

Flew with a guy recently who heard another window could possibly open late summer or fall... nothing substantiated so just rumor

787's arriving I believe in early 2021. Just starting to solicit for management pilots.. And I'd guess check airmen sometime later this year. We've had a bit of movement and a few vacancies recently that kind of surprised some of us in a good way... Hopefully it keeps up and the 787 only adds to the positive movement.

I've never heard of anyone using a interview prep for Hawaiian.

People dog the place for first year pay because it’s an industry wide embarrassment. People who work at Hawaiian talk about the bankruptcies like they happened yesterday and not more than a decade ago. There are a lot of people who are living in the past and who are addicted to nostalgia. This is a joint company/union problem and both sides are to prideful and would rather turn a blind eye to a rather serious issue. People who support paying 1st year guys wages from 20 years ago needs to wake up and look towards the future and not the past. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should do it. Some people forget that ethics is a thing because it’s not a requirement for business.

Just a swag... Keep your apps updated. IF the JV with JAL gets approved, me thinks the flood gates will open. Very quickly after that, the 787 bids should start opening.

As for first year pay, as long as the application pile of qualified candidates outnumbers the openings by a 10:1 + ratio, don’t expect much.

“Flight time” isn’t what they’re looking at. They are looking for volunteers and people with trust funds.
