Quote: Some of us can work the system and stay in a position that we desire even though senior, although non-qualified people are displaced. I like the system as it is now.... able to work a deal and stay in a domicile and jet that you desire without having to fly the line much.
What does that mean, "non-qualified people are displaced"?

What kind of a system circumvents seniority, and displaces people that someone deems "non-qualified"? An airline that doesn't have a union?

Some of us have special qualifications that make it desirable to keep us in our current fleet.

The company did the same nonsense with realignment bids in Dec '14 and again in April '15, both times putting newhires, recently upgraded Captains, junior ANC pilots in all seats on the displacement block.

There were announcements of newhire classes after each realignment, so hopefully that trend continues...especially given that the company has been interviewing over peak and now into 2016.

"Just another great UPS day"

The company is downsizing ANC and moving crews to SDF in order to facilitate the introduction of the 777 SDF in 2017.

So pilots that don't have these "special qualifications", according to you, they are "non-qualified"?

Most of us have been instructors or check airmen at some point in our flying careers. I don't think I would have considered myself, "the best of the best of the best," and others as non-qualified because of it.

So they are allowed to displace people without regard to seniority? How does the union let them get away with that? That seems way outside of the bounds of most airline contracts.

No.

Titanic deck chair rearrangement bids get published, removing positions from certain fleets/seats and adding positions to other fleets/seats. They identify the junior pilots in each position who will be subject to a Displacement bid if there aren't enough voluntary moves senior to them during the Realignment bid.

I think some guys on property have 3 Initials in a single 12 month period due to the failure of Crew Planning to project manning needs more than the next bid ahead (or behind).

At least "training is free"...

Okay, that sounds seniority based. The way it was phrased, it sounded like "special qualifications" could keep you from being displaced, and being new on an airplane could get you displaced.

We have plenty of people who have newly upgraded, yet go right to the middle of the seniority list on the airplane, because they stayed senior in their seat position. Whether you get displaced or not is 100% of where you are in seniority in your seat, nothing else, and it sounds the same as your system.

That's a lot of training. You'd think they would lock people into a seat position for awhile to avoid that. Training costs money.
